Denise--RUN, don't walk to your nearest AT&T store, and get the 3G card, which is wireless so you don't have to worry about rain, sleet or snow, or endless waiting and being disconnected. I live out in the sticks and will never have DSL in this area. I have the Hughes two-way satellite, but it's $87.00 for the fastest downloads. The snow can pile up on the dish, but my husband rigged a heater on it. I think the ATT card works as well as Hughes, and you can take it anywhere. Yes, I did have Earthlink and AOL and hated both of them. Dialup is the WORST. The ATT card was $100 for startup, but the rebate was also $100, so not much cost to get started. I signed 2 year plan. I think if you have ATT cell phone, a package plan is better. Go check it out, and good luck cancelling the Earthlink account. Be sure to get confirmation number when you do. They are terrible.
thank you....I too live in the sticks...the only phone service out here is Verizon...No ATT
This 3G card has nothing to do with your phone line or service. (Verizon also has the same plan) You don't need to have ATT service to get the G3. You can be ANYWHERE in the world. It's really cool. Check it out. You won't be sorry.
I don't have EarthLink, I have Hughes satellite, and while it is expensive, rather, it's the only game in town. I live way out in the country, and the phone lines out here are so old I might as well have had a 28.8 modem, usually I was only connected at about 14, talk about waiting for a page to load, I could do a load of wash in between. Once we got the Hughes set up, I have Zero trouble with it, it's one of those things that just works like it's supposed to. Except when I have 4 feet of snow & can't get out to clean off the dish, but that's not their fault. It does have a limit, though, and if you're thinking streaming video, watching internet movies, etc., you have to get the upgrade package. In order to keep it fast, if you download more that a certain amount, you get "FAPped" & it slows down. Fair Access Policy, so the gamers don't get the whole bandwidth while you're sitting there stuck for the same amount of money. You want to game, pay for it. I have never had a problem with things like embroidery downloads, e-mails, etc., you have to be a heavy video or game user to need the upgrade. Oh, satellite is 54X faster than dialup. Download is "right now", no waiting. If you decide to go this route, PM me. I went with a local dealer rather than call the Hughes 800 number, and got a better deal, faster service, and can call a local guy if I ever have problems. Best of luck, Marji
I've heard of Hughes Net...I'll check them out...I know I have to do something...d/l is a pain...
