I cut the extra a bit larger than the design and spritz it with Spray and Fix (temporary adhesive) and press it onto the bottom before I start stitching. It stays perfectly!
Thanks for the question and to all for the answers
Great question and great explainations! Thanks*
And you wouldn't hoop extra, because you can only stuff so much into that hoop and keep everything tight. If you hoop one piece and float one piece, the hoop is still tight, and the first few stitches catch the floated piece (underneath the hoop, this is) and bring it right along with no problem. Hope this helps. Marji
Makes sense...glad to know others have done this. I am always so apprenhesive, thanks.
I use ironed left-over pieces of stabiliser (light or medium weight) and pin it - not really float it. as soon as the first stitches or the machine basting stitches are done I remove the pin. Works fine for me.
Chenille, no silly questions around here - we were all new to embroidery at one time or the other and we all have room to learn - too. *4U
See you got answers which I would have given You. And remember there are no silly questions, we all help were we can and learn from each other. *4U from Yvonne
I have done this and had gr8 results i have it on a small roll and have it at the back of my machine and bring some through so i can see it at the front of my hoop. I have used light weight tearaway or cut away. and no it doesn't jam up just make sure it is flat under the hoop and no problems good luck :)
I have a small roll but would not have thought of this, much less thought it would work.... Thanks, I will try this!!

An extra piece of stabilizer under the hoop just gives a little more support to the design particularially when doing a really dense design. I have used this before and it helps. I usually use a middle weight cut-away and cut it a little larger than the hoop so you can see it all around the bottom of the hoop.
