In the UK our Mother's Day or Mothering Sunday as it used to be called, is the 3rd Sunday before Easter a very moveable occasion. This year we had Monther's day on March 22nd. Father's day is the 3rd Sunday in June the same as the US it seems. Although Mother's Day here was several weeks ago I wish you all a happy day tomorrow.

I understand it was called Mothering Sunday as this was the one day a year girls who were away in service went home to see their Mothers. I beleive it was traditional for the girl's employer to give her a simnel-cake to take home as a gift for mother. A simnel-cake is a rich fruit cake cooked with a layer of mazipan through the center, also covered wth mazipan and decorated with 11 small mazipan balls around the top edge. (These represented the 11 desciples). The cake was kept and eaten for tea on Easter Sunday.

Yes jjjj you're right and when I was young here in the UK you went to Church on Mothering Sunday and the Vicar would give you a Daffodil to give your Mother! My Mother in Law was in Service in a local Castle and I know she could go Home to see her Mother. She was 103 yrs old when she passed!
Happy Mothers Day US and for France on June 7th.

In the USA (and Canada?) Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May, this year May 10. Father's Day is in June, second or third Sunday? I know always around June 16, because that's my birthday, and my parents always said I was my Daddy's Father's Day present that year. Actually, I was a pretty special present, because my parents had been married 9 years, and thought they'd never be able to have kids at all, then I showed up!

Happy Mother's Day, whenever you celebrate!! Think of it this way, Sissi, you can see all our Mother's Day projects, then have time to do yours, hee hee hee. Hugs, Marji
