I remember my mother using Organ hand-sewing needles, they came in a folding card pushed thru pieces of foil. I'll bet I still have some dating back to the 40's from her stash. I like the Organ sewing machine needles, and the Schmetz, can't say I've paid a lot of attention to the lasting quality of sharpness, but I've never broken a needle in the embroidery machine. Just because I'm an information freak, I looked up the website. Organ is a Japanese company that started out making styli for gramophones in the 1920's. For any other information geeks out there, here's the link. Hugs, Marji
Who knew that a little question about needles could garner so much info!!! Thanks so much...I'm really glad I asked.**4U
Here in Europe it's predominantly Schmetz - apart from the no-good cheap ones you get in market stalls. Which I have used since I bought my first sewing machine in 1963.
My 4-needle, which uses industrial needles, came with 60 size 12 Groz-Becket and 20 size 11 Organ needles. I haven't yet used the first and the latter are great, I haven't had a broken needle since I bought the machine in Nov 2007.
Good to know. How often do you change your needles..? I have a slip of paper and try to mark down times, I was told 8 hrs per needle. ( this after I broke one and had a costly "fix it" bill!!)
for those interested in Organ needles--Check out
marathonamerica.com/ $11.95 for 100 needles This is the only place I buy from. There is a store in Dallas I go to they are very helpful and affordable.
Check all their prices.
I use both or whatever is around. I usually get needles when away where there is a choice in the shops. The last needles I got was a 100 Schmetz which a friend and I shared. I now need some more but this time I think I will get from ebay. I often use a 80 or a 90
I switched from Schmetz to Organ brand needles a few months ago. I LOVE them. My machines like them too! I have a Brother Quatro and a Brother Innovis 2500D. I use 12s and 14s. Metallic thread does well through a long eye needle.
I use Organ 10pcs 75/11 exclusively. They even sew through softer leathers. I love them and don't ever have any problems. They cost just a smidge more, but last 3-4 times longer, so are cheaper in the long run.
I use them all the time on my Janome 10001, Have not had any problems whatsoever. I buy them from allstitch.
Klasse needles work well to Chenille. I buy my double, triple and wing needles at my dealer. Here's a buy 2, get 1 free coupon.
I've used both and interchange them as I need to. Organ needles last longer and are stronger and more expensive (I think), Schmetz needles are also very good especially for metallic threads. I have a Brother PE-150 and both work well in this machine.
This is so good to know..I have a BrotherPE-300S. It is small but works great! Thanks!
I use mostly 12s and 14s. I never use metallic needles anymore because my 14 Organs work just fine. You'll love them.
I use them all the time on my Baby Lock Imagine (serger) and Baby Lock Ellisimo (embroidery/sewing machine). I get the serger needles from All Brands and the machine needles from All Stitch. Best prices around! :-)
