It's a meandering line used in quilting to fill in areas. Kind of looks like jigsaw puzzle. Here's some examples for embroidery machines. (that's cheating, you know :)

Normally it's done with free motion so you guide where the lines are--with embroidery, you just hoop it and there it is!

Some sites have stippled squares that you can download to use just as you would any other embroidery design.
