lots of them out there but I use usb drives and work great. Hubby uses one to download his quicken on............small.
I have the My Book, which sit together like books on a shelf and a Maxtor that is small and compact.
Alot depends on how much money you want to spend.
Both of these were simple to install and just click where to store, like on your computer. I can take the external hard drives to the sewing room and download what file I want or take it with me where ever I go. I keep all my embroidery files on one and all other files on another. Even my programs are on the external hard drives. makes the computer run faster too.
Good luck finding one.
I use a 4 gb thumb drive for all my embroidery files. small and compact.
I have a simpletech external Harddrive. 1 click & it DLs for u . Recently had to have my laptop wiped clean but everything was backed up on the simple so never lost a thing, *

I have a 500 GB external hard drive, which I use to back up everything - and things I bought I back up on CD as well. Using an external HD could not be easier, really, you just copy the whole lot to the thing. It takes some time, but once you have given the OK for overwriting what is already there, it runs smoothly. At the moment there are all sorts of special offers - the upside of a recession.
You're welcome on the donkey! I don't use another hard drive, I have plenty of room, I just back up onto CD or DVD. But then, I'm the only one using the laptop, so I don't have to save anything I don't want to. Good luck, Marji
