price, and I only have to pay $5500. Is it worth the extra? I love the idea of bigger hoops, more room for quilting, but is it worth it? Thats a lot of money right now.

Thanks

I have a Brother Quatro 6000D, and I love it! I think that you'll find that it's worth the extra money. Good luck.

Do you have to split the designs as they mentioned? Can you save your settings and start where you ended the next day?
Do you have to re adjust your tension when re starting. Is the sewing field true or stops and inch or 2 short of the frame?

Read all the wisdom that has bn given to u cracker. go over all the pros & cons. We cannot tell u what is best for u. Only u can make that decision. I would love to have a new elissimo buuutt I've learned a lot about my machine & I'm happy with it, it talks to me & I'm not afraid to take it apart & clean it to keep it happy. I can tell when it's humming or when it's burping I'm use to it & it's use to me. I'll keep what I have. Make your decision after mulling over it a while. *4U

Melani, you have your answer - deep down inside - it is there - you will know what you should do for you - you be guided by what you feel that you need - to do the jobs that you need and want to do - think about it hard - before making the choice and let us know what you decided. *4U

Perhaps you can go to your dealer and ask to "play" with the Quattro under their supervision. If you have not been able to do that, then it might help you make up your mind. My dealer is very agreeable to that type of request, and he sells alot of machines - because the customer knows after test driving, what they really want and can afford.

Best wishes !

I have a Brother Supergalaxy 3100D (It still works with dikettes) When I win the lotery I buy another machine. Mine is old... but it works very well. And I never spend money before I realy have it. But that's just me. And I don't use it for work. Good luck with making a desision.

I don't know Brother machines at all, Cracker, but I'd make a list of what you'd really really do with the 'new' stuff. Remember, bigger hoops don't necessarily mean bigger sewing field, usually you have to split designs for those hoops. Sometimes we just get caught up in our own 'wishful thinking' with these great machines, be serious with yourself & think what you'd actually do, not what you 'could' do. Me, I'm not upgrading from my little Janome 300E until they invent an embroidery machine that runs the sweeper, too, hee hee hee. Hugs, Marji

Yes, only you can decide that one. Just remember bigger is not always better. Like someone mentioned you have to have larger stablizer and sometimes a lot of waste. Think about what type and size of projects you want to do with the machine, how often would you use the large hoops.

I would like to have that machine also.. Have the 4000D and when the warranty runs out in another 2 years I will get the next machine brother comes out with as long and the designs are in pes format since I have thousands of them.. I love that 6000d .. I think it is very worth the money... but that's me..

Hello Cracker! As you know, I just bought my Brother 1500D and am learning so much about it!!!! I think each decision to upgrade is based on the same considerations. What I did was to make a list of what my "little" Brother did and compared it to what the "big" brother did. You know - make a list...then step back and decide if the price of $5500 is worth the difference. Also, I had to decide what could I afford at this time. I would have loved to have a machine with a color LCD but, the difference in price was huge and certainly not worth the difference to me (also knowing we have two in college right now). We have some big expenses coming up this year (new roof needed and probably a change in one of our vehicles). Only you know what is best for you. Good luck in your deciding.*

Just a point to remember when thinking of larger hoops, (I'm not talking about just upgrading to have hoop choices larger than 4x4 & 5x7), i'm talking about the huge ones like the viking magestic, etc.

Larger hoops require larger stabilizer and then you need to have larger designs.

And I went to use my magestic last week only to discover you have to split the design, stitch one side, turn the hoop around and stitch the other side. What a pain!

If I had wanted to split designs I could have done that in the hoops I already had and saved myself $300.

And you can't stitch right to end of the hoops either, my two largest hoops only stitch to within two inches of the top section of the hoops! (FALSE ADVERTISING???)

And I find if i have to leave a design overnight and start on it again the next day the tension on the embroidery has (sort of) released and I have to tighten everything (stretch it taut) again. So now I am really careful to make sure I have enough time to complete the design before I start stitching one in the large hoops.

Just my two cents worth and probably not worth that.
Hugs n roses, M

Yes, remember, larger HOOPS does not necessarily mean larger SEWING FIELD, two very different things! There's a gigahoop available for my Janome 300E (Raels has one) but the designs have to be split & the hoop taken off & turned around. The sewing field is still 5x7, no matter the size of the hoop. Hugs, Marji

Good point, I'll have to look into that. I do know with my present machine, if I stop and turn off the machine, I have to start all over the next day, including downloading the design..... at least i don't see a memory area to save where I am at. I'll write this down, so I can ask these questions.
Thanks.I knew you all would have the answers I needed.

I want that machine so bad I do not know what to do but just can not aford it My machine is a babylock esanta and have had it for ever. If I could afford it I would have it right now. My friend has it and I love it. I will wait untill they go down and then I will tink about it.

I guess it depends on whether you can afford the difference or not. AND...If you sell a lot of your work, to help pay for the upgrade. That IS a lot of money, but If I could afford the difference, myself, I would love to upgrade to a larger hoop.

I would like to be able to do more so I could sell some stuff. I know if I had the commerical machine, I could really pay for it with work.
