I have lots and lots of things to learn...It is very overwhelming learning this fine art and was just playing around with the software...whooshhh you cuties who do this are to be commended... I will leave the hard stuff to the seasoned digitizers and will just continue to pay for those things I need done expertly! hehehe..I am going to try and post a pic below in a minute..My question is this though...when digitizing a design from a clipart file that was a free download is it legal to use...not to sell just to learn with...don't want to post anything illegal..

Congratulations I bet you felt great. I marvel just watching any design being sewn before my eyes. To have something that you did yourself must be so fulfilling. I don't digitise - but I appreciate all the time and effort that goes into each design.

Love and blessings Chris

It looks great!! You have done a fantastic job!! I have played with digitizing a little, but I just can't seem to get the hand of it. I'm glad you stuck wth it,because it really paid off!

Thats a great job for your fisrt. My first was a disaster and I quit for a couple months. But the bug bit me again. My hardest part is lining up the starting points of colors so that there are not a lot of jump stitchse. Drives me crazy ( didn't have very far to go to start with). Oh well, I am learning with every one I do. Keep doing small ones untill you feel secure in doing it and then go to something a little harder.

For lining up start and stop: Start the part of the design where you either left off (stopped) at the previous part and stop the design part where you want to start the next design part. This is great when you are outlining or using the same color for different parts. Hope this makes sense. :)

Great job! Keep going and you will be a pro in no time. :)

That does not work in every program. 3D starts the filling according to the angle you gave it, not necessarily where you put the starting point. Embird on the other hand let you set the starting and the end points and you can manipulate the connections any way you want.

You can see what we say about terms and conditions on the site where you got the clipart from. Clipartoon and Clipartopolis only want a link to there website when you post designs on the web; others want a fee if you use it commercially, e.g. not just for personal use or craft shows, but in large amounts (over 25 or so a year). Ignoring copyright may not be comparable to murder, it is to theft, so you are right to be cautious, but the sites will state what you can or cannot do with their drawings.
Congratulations on your first design. You'll get hooked! It's so satisfying to do and see your machine stitch out your own design, let alone see others use it!

I had a look at their site. It says quote:
Freebies: NONE OF MYGRAFICO FREEBIES ARE FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSE, YOU CAN USE FREEBIES AS EDUCATIONAL AND PERSONAL PURPOSE ONLY.Unquote.

If you got it from Clipartopolis, whether it's free or not, you may use it to digitize for your own use, or even to sell. Read the terms of use of the site where you downloaded it to be sure. A lot of digitizers use the freebies from Clipartopolis and sell the digitized files (that's why you can often find the same designs on different sites), so giving it away here should be no problem. Glad you're having fun, what software are you using? hugs, Marji

My daughter (who owns a company) wanted their logo digitized and decided to buy software for me as a mother's day gift.Little did she know this is not something you learn in a day...Ricky is doing the logo for me...The software is from S&S computing..SewArt is what it is called..

I don't digitize, so I don't know about illegal or not, but congratulations with your new experience.
