Yes, Ruth, Ricky is right. When you import most clip art, you will have a white background. If you are manually digitizing, it doesn't matter at all. If you are auto digitizing, you need to make that background color something that isn't in your picture, say neon green or purple. When you prepare the photo, and it asks what stitches you want and shows you the colors in the three columns, move your background color over into the 'eliminate' column, it's a drag & drop. Then you won't get any background to your design. Be careful auto-digitizing, though, you'll find you have to do an immense amount of preparation to the clipart (unless it's wmf, even then), and the auto program will give you a lot of jump stitches and sometimes silly ways of digitizing. If you make all your settings "weave", instead of letting the program do its own thing, you can then go into 'properties' of the object and change to satin fill or whichever you want. Honestly, it's actually LESS time consuming just to manually punch a design than to try to fix the auto into something presentable. But I know you're gonna try it anyway, hee hee hee, so go ahead. But when your outlines are way off the mark, you'll know why. Auto doesn't compensate for the push-pull of the stitches. By the way, save frequently, and if you want to try the design a different way, save it as (name)1, (name)2, etc. That way, if you like the original way best, you still have it, you didn't change it & can't get it back. Good luck, you'll get the hang of it, make as many mistakes as you want, the "undo" feature under edit is practically endless!! hugs, Marji

You will always have a white background behind your image. You are auto digitizing, that us why you get the white stitches. Go to the help files and it will tell you how to eliminate that. Failing that, contact me and I will be able to help you. But you will get better results if you digitize manually.
You live only about 15- 20 minutes from me.If you would like to learn to use it, I can help you.

It doesnt seem so,if you click the digitiser icon it comes up with the design embedded in the background, so you get say a cartoon style cow it apears with a white background, and if you go to view, it show the white as stitches, if that makes sense. I got the cow from one of these sites with clipart for digitising.*4u
