instuctions or help of how to put it together. I thought of doing "stitch in the ditch" when finished as there will be no way I can do stipple designs although there are stipple designs included in this pack. The quilt will be too big to fit between the needle & the motor on the machine to do stippling or stitch in the ditch. Any suggestions? Hope this is clear (as mud LOL.) HELP!!!!!!!!

Super suggestions, but to answer your question about the quilt being too big to fit between the needle and the motor on the machine, this is how you do it:
After you make the "quilt sandwich" which is the backing piece wrong side up, batting, then the quilt top ALL basted together, you start on the left side of the quilt and tightly roll it up until you have about 12" of Middle of quilt showing. THEN, you roll up the right side leaving that 12" still showing. You quilt the center and roll up one side and unroll the next until you have the whole thing quilted. Best thing to do is go find a quilt shop, and take classes and ask questions.;)

Irene, do you not have a Country Women's Association in Warren?
If there is, I'm sure if you joined it you would find more help than you could handle.

I've added a link to a 'Quilt as you go' (as suggested by Chris) instruction page for you below.

I'm also starting my first quilt (actually 3 of them) and also did a block for the special project here at Cute.

The first quilt i'm doing is part of a local community workshop and we're making several quilts for the Bushfire victims. the one i am part of is a quilt AYG and I've made 18,complete, blocks that will be joined up with everyone elses and the quilt is finished. It wasn't as scary as I thought.

The next one I'm doing is part of Love'sEmbroidery Group and we are each making our own lap quilt (with lots of guidance) between now and Christmas.
It's not too late to start if you want to join Barbara's Group, you only need to be a Yahoo member to join. (I'll add the link below)
If you email me I will give you more info. And help with all I have learnt so far.

My third one is for my GD and I'm absorbing all the info to do that by searching for quilting websites, watching "Simply Quilts" on Fox and sheer determination. There was a post recently with a link to view Simply Quilts online

I figure if our great, great, grandmothers could make them without all our mod-cons, I sure as h**l can make one! LOL!!!

Hope this info is helpful.
hugs n roses, Meganne
I'm also extremely lucky to have Nonna57 (Pauline), living nearby and she has been sharing her quilting knowledge with me

Yes there is a CWA but not many people in it & no-one in or around this town does machine embroidery. Closest town that does it is over 1 hour away. There is a lady who does the stippling so I will have to ask her, maybe she can do it for me but I really want to try & do it all myself. Perhaps I'm being unrealistic?

Irene, no, you aren't. You can do it. I started off over 20 years ago doing a Queen size quilt for my first effort. I've made dozens since then - it only takes the first one to get you hooked.

Go for it. Love and blessings Chris

Also Irene have a look at Google. Just type in Quilt as you go and see if there are some other websites to help you out. Good luck.

I hope to see you quilt posted on this site one day.

Irene, for your first quilt, why not try quilt as you go. There are some great instructions for this type of quilting. You basically have the 3 pieces of fabric. eg. top fabric, the batting and the backing fabric - I use a cotton or wool batting personally.

Have a look at this website from Secrets of Embroidery.

I myself don't do quilting - I send it to a professional quilter. I do all the other work cutting out, piecing and then sewing it all together. Then I send it to my local quilter - who has this as her business.

There will be other women who will add some information for you I am sure.

Doing it this way you can stipple each square if you want to - or whatever design you make eg. star shape, oblong, circular any quilting design can be placed in the hoop. A good one is flip and stitch too.

Good luck and love and blessings to you.

Chris

It is a great way of doing a quilt so that you can actually embroider it too. I found it up in a country town near Newcastle a few years ago.
