Since the blocks are cream/white/tans....I vote for the browns in earthy tones!!

Yes, that's a great idea Barb. At least it will tie in with the background fabrics. There are many beautiful "earthy" colours to compliment all those lovely squares. Lvoe Chris

I either begin my quilt with the border chosen or I choose it when I lay out the blocks in a way that is pleasing, then I can find what I want. I thought the 3 1/2 x 6 1/2 block of background fabric we sent was going to be the outside border, guess I didn't understand the intent. Maybe when you post the lay-out we can help more.

the extra will be the final border around the whole piece...what we need is a color to go around individual blocks to seperate them so that they will stand out individually...

Do you have the sayings all ready done?
Maybe do a smaller virsion of a turning 20. the long strip below or to the side of the block could have the saying, That way there could be many colors and it would highlight the blocks.

I agree with Chris and the others, earth tones are excellent and as she said if you are a sewer you have a great eye for colour, and simple would be great, not to take it away from the blocks, should be lovely anyway ***

Hi everyone - I also agree with the earth tones. There are many beautiful shades from a mushroom pink to a deeper taupe colour, right up to the colour of the earth.

With regard to "greens" the same applies. I reckon Deanna once you've assembled it - a colour will jump out at you and that's the one you go with. I've attached a colour wheel that I use, it might help you guys out.

Most sewers have a good eye for colour and you'll certainly know which one to choose once all is in place.

Love and blessings Chris

thanks Chris, but this is to be the community project and I want everyone to input what they think would go with the blocks I have posted pictures of....Once I get them all in, I will lay them all out together for a better idea for everyone....

I love the earth tone shades...so many to choose from and they would compliment or highlight ALL the designs...sometimes if the borders have too much color it takes away from the designs. I could see two border stripes-a medium neutral shade... then a darker shade on the outside...What do you think???

keep in mind we have the words to sew throughout the strips...so when you say 2 borders-1/2" each then the 2" strip with words or are you thinking only 2 small borders and just do the wording in the overall outside border???

lindaavolio by lindaavolio 11 Jul 2009

How about the words on the 2" inside strip(going around the border...first)maybe
on a light medium neutral color then a darker neutral color 2-2 1/2" strip on the outside border to finish it off???????????? (IN INPUT GIRLS!!!)

I kind of think the green tones would tie together all the greens in the flowers. But I'd kind of have to see all the blocks together to tell, I guess. Must be a 'blockhead', hee hee hee. I'll give it some more thought. Hugs, Marji

Do you have a piece of fabric you could post a picture of? What about a sage color...keep in mind the we will be adding the wording throughout it.

Why not a couple green tones - to match the greens in the flowers - would that be possible?

I would agree the greens would be good for the theme. also earth tones would be good.

camylow by camylow 11 Jul 2009

so you think green around the blocks themselves and earth tones connecting all...Don't forget the posting I made with all the beautiful thoughts on our feelings....
