I bought a lovely wallhanging in New Zealand of a fern.

working hard on it and will soon have to quilt with stipling around the fern leaves.
Never done anything like it and and very worried to spoil project.
any tips will be grafully received.
Thanks.

I use one of my embroidery feet and go slowly. Just practice on a sample before hand... will come out great I'm sure! :-)

Wish I could help, I have never tried it. I'm embarrassed to say that I have a stitch regulator that came with my machine and I have never had it out of the box.

There are many demos on Youtube--I've done alot of freehand stippling, and it's really fun, but does take practice. Practive on a patch of material the same thickness as quilt (i.e. fabric sandwiched with batting inside) Start with small area until you get the hang of it. The gloves make all the difference in the world. Have fun!

Just a word of caution....try freehand quilting on a sample of nothing else but fabric with a batting before trying it on your project. You may decide on a different approach for your project. Either way have fun but do try it out the machine freehand stippling first as it isn't as simple as it sounds.

My advice too: practice! Do a potholder and you'll see how easy it is - or not.

thanks, no I think it will be quite hard as I like to have everything just right lol. But will practice first

Not a problem. The hardest part is getting your movements in synch with your speed (unless you have a stitch regulator) once you get your rhythm it's a fun outing. Just drop your feed dogs, take a deep breath and slowly step on the peddle and move your fabric slowly increasing both your foot and your hand speed at the same time and poof youre stippling!

Edith, I sure look forward to seeing your project - when you finish it - I don't have any experience in this area, so sorry. *4U
