He had trouble breathing, so they went to the emergency room. The chest x-ray revealed a softball sized mass behind his heart, on his lung. There was NOTHING there in the February x-ray, they checked several times. They need to do a biopsy to determine exactly what type of cancer they're dealing with, so they can tailor the chemo and radiation to it. He will be home for a few days till they get the test results and determine an action plan. They feel that because it is so fast growing it is also more fragile, like an oak tree is slow growing and strong, where a poplar grows 3 feet a year but gets knocked over by a strong wind. They're hoping the treatment can knock it down pretty well. It's still a 'hope', not a certainty. Please pray for Bill, and also for Pam. She's scared, and needs strength to stay positive for Bill, and still take care of her kennel business. I'll try to keep you posted. I'm amazed how much health trouble there is lately, with all of us! Thank you for caring, hugs, Marji

Marji, I missed this when you posted it 10 days ago. I'll add them to my list. I hope and pray it has not spread. Hugs, Martine.

Thanks, Martine, I hope it hasn't spread, too. I just can't imagine what it would be like to have a 'timetable' for the death of one's husband, too horrible to contemplate. Hugs, Marji

Marji, of coarse Bill and Pam will be added - you keep us informed - as I see that you have already done, again. *4U

Update on Bill. I just got this e-mail from my SIL Pam:
hi everyone,

just wanted to let everyone know that Bill and I went to the Cancer Center today. They said that they are going to have to do a bone and a brain scan. since this is a such a fast spreading cancer they need to know that it has not spread to either of these areas. if it has spread to either of these areas he might only have about another 7 or 8 months. if it has remained in the lungs and they get is shrunk with radiation and chemo then he could have another couple of years. if they do shrink it they will have to monitor him constantly because it is a small cell cancer and can pop up anywhere at any time. so it is back to a waiting game again for more test results. please keep up those prayers that it has not spread. Pam

The whole process of daily living is simply based on hope, we do tend to forget that and how fragile life is. All my hope and prayers to you and your family.
