Want to practise, but with feet down just get loops underneath and difficult to move material.

Feet up and sews just fine.
Is there anyone at all who might know why that is ?
Thanks

Use foot R and stitch V1, don't forget to move a transporting teeth (whatever they are called in English) down and start sewing, preferably on something small like a potholder, Success.

you have to change to freestyle sewing it is under menu V for freestyle you need to have your R foot on also.
good luck I have not tried it myself so post how it goes for you. there is a yahoo group for viking D1 that answers all questions to do with our machines
and they are great jan from sewwhatfor retirement is in the group and she has a lot on her website about viking machines she sells dvd's for them too.
this is the yahoo group

Forgot about the D1 group, thanks for reminding. There is a freehand setting under SET and than the V. What a difference it makes. Will begin practising tomorrow. Thanks tremendously all for your kind help

I have the designer 1 and all you do is drop the feed dogs, select your fabric type and 'seam' then try to coordinate your speed with your movements and you'll be fine. Prepare to break several needles til you get the hang of it. It does have a setting for 'free motion' but I have found it never really works very well on mine.....

Double check your threading of machine....it should sew fine with the feed dogs down. A small hint-try to use a smooth motion when quilting...not the jerky motion (sometimes easier said than done). You may also want to go to the hardware store and buy a cheap pair of the gloves with grip dots on the hand...these really help relieve stress on your hands and help to move fabric smoothly..Good luck let us know how you make out. I am so grateful for my longarm machine (of course everyone else gets theirs done first :)

thaks for your answer, have heard now that you need to change something in the program too. Must look at that tomorrow.
Have just bought some gloves as the films on you tube were very helpful thanks to Cuties.
Think I will find it even so very difficult but must ry.
thanks again
