Thanks everyone. I got this postcard in the mail to order now! And it is a sweatshirt with my last name on it with the word "University" underneath it. I am sure many of you received that. So instead of spending hundreds of dollars ordering several of these, I am going to make my own. Applique of course. No way I am hooping that many letters.
I appreciate your help.

Great question! It's added immensely to my store of probably useless information, but I really enjoyed the answers. Who knows, I might sew something besides a cat someday, hee hee hee. Hugs, Marji

Great Question! I pulled my old one out and daughters more recent one and the letter size was the same (3 1/2"). Her's said only UGA and mine said Georgia. See?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAWGS!
you got some good answers so I will give out flowers.........to all
hyfibutt, what a question - go to a college web site and see what they have - I would do them as large as my hoop would handle - it you need more than one letter - then you would have to scale them down some - who site are you planning on getting them from would also dictate the size - unless you are digitizing them yourself. *4U
I have two college font alphabets. One is two inches and one is 3 inches. Hope this helps
The set I have is 4 inches--but depends on how many letters you are putting on shirt.
I think mine has four inch letters...but I would print out some sizes and try them on the shirt b-4 stitching...it might look better to adjust to the size of the shirt tooo...a small could handle a 3 inch when a 4x would need a 6 inch to look OK!!
Personally, I think it is a matter of personal preference. How many letters with the sweatshirt have? The more letters the smaller it will need to be IMHO. It isn't uncommon to see three letter at 6 inch height. If you have 6-8 letters you may have to scale them down to say 3 or 4 inches so they fit and are legible.
