This is my second attempt at the rag quilt, this time I have made it properly and I used bigger squares than the one for Mackenzie. I have used the polo fleece and the flannelette. After I completed this I wanted to put his name on it but didnt want to see it from the other side so I put it on a piece of polo then I decided to appliqued it to the right side of the flannelette and sew it down and fringe it to blend and match into the rag quilt. He loved it, even though he is only 11 months she showed how much he loved it by rolling around on it and pointing to all the animals. It was worth the effort.

Great job is it flannels or homespun? Daniel should love curling up under it. I made one from flannels with 2 layers of homespun inside, had to have my gingers sharpened after cutting it. But that was 4 years ago and he is still using it every winter. I know your grandson will love it for many many years.

Peggy I have done this with the polo fleece and flannel, for every square there is one polo side and one flannel side and then it is reversed on the other side so on the back of the plain squares is a printed flannel and on the back of the printed flannel is the plain polo. I didnt put anything inside it as it was nice and thick both sides and the same thicknesses in each square. Glad you liked it. Sandra

Thank you Claire, the sun has made it look lighter than what it is but Daniel loved it.

Very nice, I like the finished edge instead of the cut edges...just doesn't seem right to have the frilly edging for kids...This is way better and you did a wonderful job to prove it....

Thank you Camylow, I am only new to rag quilts and havent seen many pictures to what they are suppose to look like. i didnt realise that they were suppose to have the frilly edging and with the polo fleece it is a little stretchy so the solid border is better.

It's lovely. I like the way you finished it, with a border, that seems a bit sturdier to me than a ragged outside.

sanjoy51 by sanjoy51 05 Aug 2009

Thank you Mops. I just did a normal edge and didnt realise that it was supposed to be ragged. I folded the border in half and sewed the raw edge into the rag. It is sturdier thats for sure.
