Hello Bokkie, no one is stupid here or asks stupid questions like Jerrilyn already said to you. How can you ever learn without asking questions??? I did some embossing and it is fun to do and the result is great. Just try and enjoy. You can DL in the design by cuties the designs that Yvonne "castelyn" posted for all of us and use one of these to try.

Marie, my goodness NO you are not stupid. How could you possibly know what you don't know???? That is why we have question marks. HA! I'm glad Cuties came to your rescue and I'll bet for lots of other folks who had not ever heard the term before.

Marie, there are all sorts of designs that are using the term embossed - you are not stupid - all questions are needed here - to help others learn more about our craft. Embossed is a design that may be stitched out on a towel or a lofty material - such as a blanket made of fleece. It puts a stitch that is like a backdrop - then a non-stitched area - for the terry or fleece to be free in the middle of the design - so that gives it the embossed look. Such as can been seen here - at Embroidery Library. They also have a great tutorial on it, as well. Enjoy! *4U Shirlene

I like their embossed backgrounds - a design of your choice stands out nicely against that and does not sink away in the towel.

Hi Marie,

Have a look at the embossed designs and you can see that like on a towel say part seems to be pressed down with the embroidery and the pattern stands out.
Have not embroidered one, but that is how they seem to me. Groetjes Edith

You're right. And the thicker the towel or the higher the pile of fleece or velvet, the greater the effect. Groetjes.
