I see this is a very old letter. The Magic Box will work fine, providing there is a blank card with it. I use my Magic Box every day with my old Bernina. Hope by now you have managed to get everything working.

Hi. I have the Janome 9000 for a long time now. You do need the "Scan and Sew" which is a early model scanner specially for this machine, if you want to transfer your own designs to your machine. However when I updated my computer the EasyScan program would not work on it so I had to get an old computer with earlier Windows for it to work on. I got the old one from my kids!!! If you can get this equipment you will be able to do what you want otherwise you will only be able to use the specific design cards for the machine. You might be able to purchase these from certain Janome dealers I'm not sure. Sure hope you fine someone who can help you out because the machine itself is a wonderful piece of equipment to have.

As I understand it, there are no more new cards available for this machine. They are obsolete, so she might have to try e-bay.

I would just like her to be able to put the designs from a disk on a blank card.

anhorne gave you the right information. i have had a 9000 for about 10years and my dealer told me to get Melco sizer so i could DL patterns. You have to have the scan and sew to be able to do a lot with your machine, which I personnaly believe was the best Janome made.I have a 300e but I keep going back to the 9000. good luck. happy sewing

So if I am understanding you right, she needs a Melco sizer? to go with it A scan & sew is also with it, but did not realize that is what it is for. I have called dealers, but they just say it is obsolete & need to buy new. (very frustrating) THANKS ANY HELP I CAN GET IS APPRECIATED Pat

Pat, you need to install the Customizer program on your computer. It should also come with a dongle or hasp to put into a USB port on your computer to allow you to run it. You'll probably need to get somebody (like a teenager) to do this for you if you can't do it. It needs to be installed right in C, not in any other folder, directly in the C directory. With Customizer, you can download designs, open them in Customizer, and write to your Card, I believe. I have Digitizer Pro, which does this, but I don't have Customizer. I believe that's the program you need to talk to the Janome 9000. Perhaps some other Janome owner will see this and clarify for you. If not, re-post, and I will ask my dealer for you, they are extremely helpful. Best of luck, Marji

I am very comp. challenged, so I don't understand what you mean. The only reason I have a comp., is to get designs. Pat (maybe thats my problem)

Hello Pat

I've just read your question re the Janome 9000. I have recently sold mine on eBay, after having used it for many years. The 9000 can only use Janome's own cards with designs on them. You cannot send designs to a card unless you have the Scan'n'Sew 2, which is Janome's own scanner, and which uses a 'blank' card. You can then scan in only your own designs, such as a drawing, and you also need Janome Customiser 2000 software for your computer to fill in the stitches and then write the design to the blank card. Neither can you use the reader/writer box with the 9000, this is used on the 10000 to enable you to use the designs on the 9000 design cards. There are a lot of design cards for the 9000, easily obtainable at reasonable prices on eBay (look under Janome), and it will also stitch designs on cards for the 8000. I still have some 9000 cards which I may be putting on eBay later on. However, the 9000 is a great sewing machine. For embroidery the 9000 uses the .SEW format, but you cannot download designs from the internet as there is no way of transferring them to the machine.

I have a Janome 11000 (which does everything except make the tea!), but I also have a 10000 which I may be selling. This has the facility to take downloaded designs via Compact Flash, and to read the 9000 cards if you have the box as I mentioned above. It also has a colour screen.

I hope this helps you, but I don't mind if you contact me again. I live in UK.

All good wishes
Angela

THANK-YOU As I said I inherited this, so can't ask her any questions, but there is designs on both cards, which looks like was put there by someone. What is the purpose of having the reader writer & magic box if you can't use them? the reader writer came with a customizer 2000 CD & card. (just wondering what all this stuff is for) THANKS AGAIN Pat
