I usually have something in mind when I go searching for a design. I like quick and easy things. I'm not a elegant type of person but I do love the FSL designs of all kinds. Also cross stitch is beautiful!

Lighthouses. I LOVE lighthouses. Not too many colorchanges tho please. But realistic looking would be nice. One of the first songs that really hit me right after becoming a Christian: Lighthouse Chorus:
And I thank God for the Lighthouse
I owe my life to Him
For Jesus is the Lighthouse
And from the rocks of sin
He has shown a light around me
That I could clearly see
If it wasn't for the Lighthouse (tell me)
Where would this ship be?

Me again, sorry- but I forgot about my most ardent whish (how could this happen?!)
It is: dollhouse items!
fringed lampshades, tiny pillows, persian carpets, quilts and wallhangings in a 1:12 scale.
THAT would be great.

shirlener88 by shirlener88 15 Aug 2009

Oh my goodness - I love ITH designs, too. And most of the doll clothes designs seem to be just stitching a pattern that you end up stitching out - if my memory is clear - is that the kind you mean or something else? Very clever idea's. *4U

by lv2sew 14 Aug 2009

After thinking about this it dawned on me that I love ITH designs the best..I love pratical and useful items..like potholders etc..and I also love FSL too..I believe I like these so much because I don't have to worry about lining up a design and worrying about it being crooked or off center.... If I could ask a designer to create something for me it would have to be an ITH small doll bib..I am working on my grandaughters Christmas gifts now (doll clothes)and this would be the icing on the cake for me..(less work when they are ITH)! hehe GREAT Question!

Kathy, I love ITH designs, too. It just feels good when you have your embroidery complete and you have a finished project sitting in front of you with no worries about making sure of the ends meeting and such. Hehehe! What size is the doll? Or how big would that bib need to be? Thank you, so much. *4U

I'm looking forward to coming back to read the answers here.

Perhaps when I'm back on top of things I will be able to fulfil some design requests as I have been collecting a lot of licenced artwork and have thousands of public domain artworks to choose from also.

Specific suggestions would be helpful to give me an idea of what to digitise next for my fellow Cuties.

Thanks for asking this Q Shirlene, I'll be back on Monday after my big birthday weekend. :-)

Funny you should ask...Recently Sue Box released a new freebie in thier Zoo Babies collection. There is a tribal frame around the design that I just love and just this morning, I was thinking that I wish I could find an alpha with a similar design. I love FSL and elegant floral designs. Don't particularly care for animated designs, but since I have quite a few younger kids in the extended family, I do collect them to use for the younger ones.

Shirlene, Right now i am looking for designs that i can stitch for the Christian Book store that i am currently stitching for and what can I add to that design to make it suitable. Of course, I am always looking for my 6 and 8 year old granddaughters. It's a hard age to sew for, they don't want babyish designs and adult designs are too old for them.

Kay, there alot of religious designs out there - but what other sort of items do you want to put them on? The best thing to to with grands - let them look through your files and allow them to pick out - what they would like next - then they have an idea of what you have to choose from and their little minds get churning and they can come up with some really cute stuff. thanks - *4U

Well that is a hard one...I have been collecting for about 4 years now, I do have them catagroized and most everything is named, so it is easy for me to find what I am looking for. I do think we need really cool young adult type designs and more masculine designs for sure! I have manly men in our family and I know most embroidery things they would not wear. That is why I do aprons for them...

Wow, Shirlene, this is a great question. Two things come to mind for me: one practical and the other not as much. 1) I love tunics, and I am alway looking for a sweet simple long slightly curvy flower design. (haha, I don't think I explained that very well) 2) I want beach designs!! (colorful fish, sealife, umbrellas, frisbees, sandcastles, etc). I think that is where I'd like to be right now!!

I can't describe them, you have to see them, they are extraordinary! I just dearly wish he didn't have all the copyright stuff, because he is truly an artist in his own right. Hugs, Marji

Teri, you are a work of art - to say the least - it would be great if you found an artist that could do the work that you want and you could digitize it and then we could purchase it from you. I love Christmas so that is my biggest catagory of designs. Right now I am trying to design a Christmas Stocking for my newest granddaughter. Yeah I know I had better hurry up. Been trying all year. I have made counted cross stitch stocking for everyone over the years as they came along and now I'm stuck. I can't do counted cross stitch anymore because of my eyes and hands. Have made so many samples and nothing hits me. Any ideas most welcome. It has to be pretty detailed because they are expecting it to be as pretty as the counted cross stitch. Been digitizing this week hoping to come up with the design. I have loads of designs but they are not fitting into the stocking the way I want them to. I want the designs to flow down the stocking like a story. I'm running out of time as usual will be up late and letting everything else go on weekends to get it done. :)

I know abc has some beautiful cross stitch Christmas designs, I love Christmas too and it is also my largest category by far. I have always done plain stocking (prints) but always a cross stitch cuf (Hardanger cuff), but due to my daugher and adding kids at the last minute (she fosters) I have used some of the cross stitches designs for the machine....they really turn out lovely and to a lay person, they don't see the difference. I think you would like them and they would look like they went with the others you have done in the past. Good luck dont for get to share when you get it done.

shirlener88 by shirlener88 13 Aug 2009

Deb, you will get it done - knowing what you want is the important part of it - creating it could be difficult and I see why you would be worried - but you still have some time and if it is a year late - who will know - they don't always remember their first Christmas - keep working on it and it will come together.

Peg, thank you for your comments, too - I love your idea's. *4U each.

Thanks for the focus thought, being new to Cuties you are helping me to define my embroidery approach! I have been building my design stash, attempting to organize and learn how to use all I have acquired.
In going through the designs, there are some gaps which I would love to see filled. I would love to see more inspirational Christian designs, not cartoony, but encouraging and uplifting with a modern day approach for my teenage, not preteen, daughter. I am looking specifically for positive, elegant flame designs as that is her school logo base, crosses and artwork. Angels always work.
Other desires are for realistic horses, more masculine designs that are appropriate for hubby's polos. Love the free standing lace and baby designs.
Wouldn't be honest if I didn't confess to creating a project to use a design on!!!!
Thanks again for the great questions!

I know I've seen masculine designs, because I remember thinking "it's about time!" But, since I don't have any 'masculines' to sew for, I didn't think to remember where. Try Embroidery Library, for starters. They have a wonderful garden tractor that I got, but I got it for me, hee hee hee. Good luck, if I think of any others I'll let you know. Hugs, Marji

Cinderoak, 1st let me WELCOME you to the CUTE family - glad this question helped - it is helping me to get to know you each. I do have a love of lace, I like the realistic horses, and anything inspirational, too. As Sam suggested - go to Holy Needle - I have some of their designs and they stitch out great. Also as Marji suggested go to Emblibrary.com - I get alot of my designs from them - realistic, angels and inspirational - look on the left side for the catergories or do a search. Shirlene you do ask us interesting questions. My current desire is to get the UFO's completed and the pile in the waiting to be started... then there will be time to think. I like Celtic, Art Nouveau styles I lke Urbanthreads designs, they are different and I like Anna Bove Designs. I enjoy working with different fonts. Sometimes I do know what I want to do with a design other times I stitch and think after.

How would you answer your question?

I wish more people can do such embroidery designs.. leaves that not that big, flowers thats not so 'auntie'... LOL

When I look for a design for adults, i try to go for elegant, sophiscated and not 'auntie' kind of designs. Some designs the flowers are too flat or looks too common. Like those ready of the shelf. I hope to buy designs thats rare in the market.

I also prefer something some and not way too big, especially for quilts. I dont do quilts so seeing how the designer turns the designs to become one big quilt is ........ a bit scary for me. i cannot imagine the time i have to spent doing that pc of wk. i have to embroider 4x and if any 1x failed means i have to restart again. Yucks

I'd love to do a series of nice cutwork designs, I liked the technique when I digitized the butterfly. I'll have a go at drawing a few, flowers I think, with leaves and bars in between. Then there is the series of snails I'm working on. But I have to digitize symbols for my stoles and antependia. So far I've only done the Pentecost one: flames, no doves yet. I like designs for baby things, I've quite a collection, bought and freebies, but it's hard to find ones I really like, there always seems to be something I'd rather alter.

Hi Shirlene,
I am planning to post my first selfmade design since I joined here- and I am afraid it will never happen.
Digitizing is such a hard job. Of course IF I was able to do so, it would be my own artwork, and because I am not too much of an artist it would be a cartoon style redwork design like this one. (for a real digitizer not too hard to do.... )

I like things that are "unique", so Disney and mainstream pop culture are boring me out.
I like all designs with a touch of history. Folk Art, Jacobean style or Art Deco and so on. And as a bookworm, I like to combine text with the designs, so heirloom frames are very much apreciated (and Alphas, of course).
The most fun are colorful kids designs, I like to make gifts for all the babies and toddlers around.
Well, it seems to be easier to describe what I do not like so much:
more than 40 000 stitches (I can hardly stand the noise of my machine)
more than 20 color changes
photostitch or sfumato (for these reasons)
too big fill stitched areas, which get bullet proof and distort the fabric (I prefer applique in this cases- and I like applique designs too, by the way)
and I do not like all these "evil" designs like snakes creeping through skulls or bloody daggers.
So, thanks for asking!
Eva

Dear Shirlene I am not able to create designs, but i like so much to have a big library of design, so I have a great choice when I want to begin a new work.I like essentialy flowers. I like designs of a big size with many stitch and rich colours. I like to put flowers every where on the clothes of children. I like also designs of animals, when the designs are reallistic. When a design is offer to buy, I buy it if I think to a cloth where I could use it... if it is not too expensive. I look often to the design on sale: 50 or 60% when the price are the most attractive. In spite of those many designs that I have, I do not have always among them just the one that I want exactly, and at that time, I ask for help to find it

I'm not sure about a favourite design - Angels probably, and I prefer designs not to be cartoony, but again it depends what I am making at the time and who it is intended for.
