may i come in on this and tell you how i save money. If i am going to be doing a lot of one sized design IE one that is 4x5, then i take a piece of clear vinel the type used for the ID wallets and i cut it to fit in the hoop it is then hooped. and all tightened down. the next bit is to take a piece of card cut to cover the design plus 1.4 inch all round. then useing this template i cut a hole in the vinel
i then put double sided tape all the way around the hole. now al i have to do is center the design to fit in the hole and place the material over the hole and press it down onto the Double sided tape. the tape will actually hold several designs before it will need to be changed. then simply put another layer of tape over the first and away you go again. this saves so much on backing paper and such.
if you wish to use WSF or stitch and tear, then simply lay it down onto the doublesided tape and then postition your material and baste stitch to hold it in position.. you can snip the baste stitches from the vinel. when you have finished you can re use the vinel another time. keep any old pieces to use on ID card holders. or as applique patches to make a brag bag. another use for those pieces is to make the patch but put something under the vinel before its sewn down great educational toy..
cricket, if most of the items you stitch on are the of thicker than normal - I think you made the correct choice and you are right - you can use something else to work and use your money for designs or other supplies and enjoy everything. *4U
Cricket, I think you can buy a lot of double sided tape for the money you'd spend on that hoop. Good choice! Best of luck with your towels! Hugs, Marji
