Put her in a cute little pair of jeans, tell her to hold still, and eyeball or measure the distance from the seam to the top of pocket--or better yet--make a pocket templete, and try it on for size--only grandmas can do this :) Whatever you do, it'll be cute! Of course, there is no rule--all bottoms are different! Did I just say that?
Like Shirlene, it's always easiest for me to just look at what is already there & go from that. jrob is right a lot depends on the size of the bottom that the shorts will cover. *
Yes there is a rule of thumb but sadly I have lost my info on these but I do remember that the pocket sits straight with the side seam NOT the centre seam as this is curved also centered on children pants, the top of the pocket is around 2 to 2 & 1/2 inches from the bottom of the waist band or 3/4 inch below the the seam that runs across the back.(I could be wrong as long time since in making) You could take a tape measure with u to the shop & measure the placement & size of pocket. write it down. Best of luck.
Thanks, that information was really helpful. A flower for you and everyone else that gave me their suggestions.
both answers are good, my rule of thumb is: I place things where I like!!!!LOL****That always work.*****
hmmmm, I'd say the placement depends on how big the rear is and how big the pockets are that you want to use. Most of the pockets on shorts patterns that are purchased seem to be centered in between the center seam and the side seam.;)
Kagen, welcome back - I bet it might just be easier - if you used a pair of her shorts and looked how they are placed - if she isn't close - maybe you could go to the store and take a good look - if you don't get some answers here on placement. *4U Shirlene
