credits to the artists, etc, as was suggested to check if they're authorized to digitize and sell or offer for free. Maybe I'm missing something. I suppose that there might be other than Brother with the licence especially the eastern hemispere.

In addition to the legal questions, there are at least 2 other concerns: 1 - the design quality (how will it stitchout, etc.,) and 2 - downloading virus, malware, etc. from an 'unknown' site.

Mae, at least on Igor Denisov's site, you can be assured of good digitizing quality on all his products. I tested with McAfee, it's all green, and I've never had a problem with viruses or anything from his site. But I always test any download from any site before opening it! A site has the possibility of being hijacked at any time, even very reputable ones. Look at what happened to our own Yoriko's site, and Ferret Lady, too. Both reputable, both hijacked. Always be careful out there, no matter what! Hugs, Marji

Thanks, Eva, I hadn't looked there in a bit! Indeed he is, and his daughter Anastasia is getting to be quite a digitizer at 12 years old, fantastic! Hugs, Marji

As far a buying designs that are restricted, last year I bought a cd of Brother designs off of ebay.
It has oodles of Disney designs. No, it's not legal.
just sayin'....
Also, if your best buddy wants a particular design you have, what do you do?
Just my 2 cents which probably isn't worth a hill of beans.

I don't know for sure about the Disney designs, but I would suspect no license. Disney knows how much money they can sell designs for, I kind of doubt that they would license them to someone in another country that could distribute them over the web back to the USA. Although, I suppose it's possible, I don't know if the Brother Disney machines are available worldwide. Igor Denisov, the site owner, is a really great artist in his own right, and the designs he does from his own artwork are just fabulous. I will download or even purchase some of those, no problem. I don't bother with Disney in any way, shape or form, from anybody, ever. Pity, because Igor's a great digitizer. Hope this helps, hugs, Marji

Thank you and I agree wholeheartedly with your reply. I tool love his art and designs. He's so talented! I follow him on Facebook and Twitter. He distributes his free designs without any strings, but does love to see his designs sewn out by fans. Check out his designs in My Cute Little World, fabulous! I could go on and on but I'm sure you know where I'm coming from.

I had the same concern, though I was tempted as they really had some adorable designs. I opt to avoid downloading when there are copyright questions. Life is short and they can track everything on the internet. Just ask those spammers who were caught earlier this year. Follow your instincts, they are there for a reason.

Barbara, you have your answer. Now then, we aren't the 'design police' so can't stop you from downloading those designs - - - BUT - - - I wouldn't want to risk having my computer, embroidery machine, CD's, DVD's, flashdrives etc containing 'ALL' my designs confiscated - and all over me having downloaded an illegal design. Sorry to put it bluntly, but Disney, are very strict about this - and it doesn't matter what country you are in. Love and hugs for you sweetie and have a terrific day.

Also Barbara, you can just about 'bet your bottom dollar' that these designs are not legal - they would be charging a fortune if they were.

The only other entity licensed to have Disney designs is Brother. Anyone else selling them or giving them away, including the "big mouse" alphabet on Turquoise Broderie, is pirating them. You can be held liable if you obtain them and/or use them.

It looks like the other post has been removed so I will say it again. There is a difference in copyright regulations between countries although the western countries are all very similar. BUT copyright regulations are totally different to licensing. They are two entirely different things. It does not matter what country you are in, to be able to digitize artwork from Disney or any of the other well known characters or even comic superheros like Superman, Spiderman, Batman etc you need to purchase the license. You can not digitize these, not even for personal use, without this license. To purchase the license costs a lot of money, so if you see these designs as freebies or going very cheap, do not download them. It could land you in a lot of trouble.

To the best of my knowledge the only 'legal' disney designs are sold on brother design cards which can only be used on brother embroidery machines that have a D on the end of the model number, eg 4500D. And you must sew directly from the card, you cannot copy from the card, or even re-size or edit the designs at all even on your machine. At least on the cards I have that is the case.
