Here is a link to a site that offers many I Spy Bag designs. http://crafters.margescreations.c...
On Marge's Yahoo group, she says that the vinyl should be at least 4 mil weight. She uses a water-soluble stabilizer (Aqua-Magic) and when she has finished stitching, she use a Q-Tip with water on it to run along the edge of the opening to get rid of anything left behind from the final cutting.
Let us know how you make out. I'm interested because I found some designs I want to buy that use clear vinyl, but I haven't tried it yet.
Hi Lillian--when I did my bugs in a jar, I used a very HEAVY vinyl. I used an ordinary embroidery needle. Maybe Jerrilyn will read this and let you know what kind she used. Anyway, I would be more than happy to send you some tomorrow if you PM me and let me know your address. I have so much of this vinyl. You would probably get it on Monday. Let me know :)
I know the free sample wasn't offered to me but I have sent a PM to you about getting some! Please!
Unfortunately the satin stitch is probably the problem, it's making such tight stitches that it's actually punching out the vinyl as you sew and actually making the hole. Let us know what you make out.
I am wondering if you could use a stabilizer underneath and a tearaway on top?
Maybe that would help. Just a suggestion worth trying.
Bev
That is one of the things I tried Bev, with no luck. Thanks anyway I appreciate you answering me. *
I know this sounds crazy but when I use vinyl I do the satin stitch before I attach the vinyl. Then I do a fairly wide (width and length) zigzag over the satin to attach the vinyl. Of course on the "I Spy" bags this would have to be done on a regular machine before finishing In the Hoop. The satin stitch on the vinyl always cuts right thru it. Hope this is clear as mud.
Will probably try this maryjo. I'm in the country & have the great grand baby so no opportunity to get to town & I don't even try on the weekends, just to much traffic for me. I'll give this a try. thanks ever so much. *
See, Lillian, she's thinking along the same lines as we were - I think that is what we will have to do. I also thought of adding a piece of hem binding tape around the design (on the back of the vinyl) to see if that would make a difference. Really think the vinyl will have to be added like MaryJo said above.
For vinyl you use the same needle you would for leather.
Thank u Ricky but I've never seen a needle for leather. Where would I find it.? Not seen any at the sewing machine shops. *
Yes, that's where you should be able to get them from. I got some from my dealer. Just ask them for needles to sew leather or vinyl.
Lillian, I purchased mine at Joann's, have even seen them at Walmart. Let us know when you find what workds! Blessings! judy
