I prefer cut away for back & WSS for top. Have done several jackets from sweatshirts. Go to URL I have posted & you will see one I entered in fair last yr. If u dbl click on it it should enlarge it for you. *4U
If it's fleece, do not hoop it. It may get permanent hoop/burn marks. Use a basting stitch with a hooped stabilizer along with the other stabilizers suggested.
I should have been more specific. I had the problem with polar fleece. I'm not sure if it would happen with cotton.
Use two pieces of fusible mesh on the bottom having the stretch in opposite directions of each piece. This will stabilize the sweatshirt but still allow for stretch later. WSS on top. Trim the fusible to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch from design after stitching. The deisign will stitch beautifully but maintain the integrity of the design without bulk amd washes well.
I have found that with most sweatshirts, since they stretch alot, I need to use a cutaway on the bottom and with that I put a water soluable on top. Good luck to you.;)
See you have many answers, so I will agree about loving this place!!! Blessings and a flower for you!
Welcome. I have started to use a cut-a-away on the bottom. It seems to hold the design a bit more. Of course you may not want to see the stablizer on the inside if making a cardigan. I have also used the tearaway. And yes, the WSS on the top is a must.
free3wil, WELCOME to the CUTE family. I would use a lightweight tearaway on bottom - and a layer of the WSS topping on top. Especially is it is a dense design. *4U Can't wait for you to post this project - when you are finished.
then i do a sweatshirt I use tearaway on the inside and spray adhesive. Then I use wash away on the outside. this way you don't have to streght the fabric.
