Heather I know the feeling. I had some files to become missing and now it's my thread net. When I put the nets in front of my eyes it stayed there, I guess that is a trick huh...ROFL Let's see if anyone will try to move my stuff this evening...ROFL ROFL ;D *2U

I have most of mine backed up but I have to do a save in the next day or two. Only way of saving your files. I like the usb sticks too. Small and they hold a lot.

If files are "disappearing" from your hard drive, do a COMPLETE backup IMMEDIATELY. Most likely you have either a drive starting to fail, or a virus/worm/nasty of some kind. After getting the backup, run a scan with you antivirus and a hardware diagnostic if you can.
Another general principle is that you should always have at least 2 copies of everything, because one of them is bound to fail sooner or later. In this case more is better. Early in my years in computing, I learned to have at least 3 so that when you were writing A from B and disaster happened, you still had C sitting on the shelf. Yes, it really did happen to me
once with my whole project on those reels of tape. Talk about near death experience.... couple of years of work on those tapes and boxes and boxes of punched cards to try to reconstruct it - or reenter it all from the printed listings, many weeks of work probably. Was I ever relieved when I found that there was one tape still good! Hope my fears don't happen to you, and wish you well

I like your description. I may borrow it if you don't mind. It caught my eye because it fits my situation to a T!

Oh, thank you for reminding me of the days when computers ran on punch cards and tapes! I have to laugh, my laptop is probably more powerful than the computer that took up the whole basement of our Old Main college campus building! Hee hee hee, hugs, Marji

Oh yes. The first computer I used was the engineering model for the IBM 704. It was almost the exact speed and capacity of the original Radio Shack TRS-80. Memory then was about $1.00 a bit, now you can get a 20GByte USB stick for $10-20 - That is 8bits times 20 billion! 160,000,000,000 bits. And processor speeds and power have increased about the same ratio. Hard to comprehend! And from the whole floor of the building to something that fits in a small tote bag as well! Made for a wonderful career in computer research helping to make this all happen. Love, Lois

Loish had a very good point of making more than one backup copy. It takes hrs to download the so many great designs from cute.

I had ALL of my fonts on a "memory stick" and last Thursday we had a power surge and it wiped it clean. I was downloading more when this happened. I lost all of the fonts that I had collected plus the cute free fonts.....Better back up everything everyday on a CD.
God bless you,
Becky
