for a simple styled quilt in the hoop go and check out cassandras embroidery she has several there without all the fussyness and at a good price too. Hoopsisters are a little on the expencive side for a beginner. i have several of cassandras and just lay down a cotton backing to work on. you can add the battting and linning later i have used the quilting to create a shoulder tote with a free design from the free download at wildginger.
just make sure you press the material first and then you simply follow the instructions and finger press as you go. I allways add just a little more to the size IE 1/4 inch to the pieces for extra allowance. god luck and have fun .
hope this will help you. annie in the UK
Oh, ok, I forget everybody doesn't smash rules like I do. Any of these Quilt in the hoop patterns that will make a quilt sandwich, and the whole thing is a completely quilted square when you're done, they can be made without the batting and backing. You can just hoop light tearaway, and make the pieced part in your machine. The pattern allows you to place the pieces correctly, and the machine sews them down in the proper order. It will put a pattern on some, and the satin stitches over the seaming, if you let it. You can either skip those on your machine, or take them out in your software if you don't want that look. You can still make the pieced squares in the hoop, sew them together and then quilt it as you want to. I'm going to try and hoop old telephone book pages to do one of these squares. If you take out the embroidery, the only reason you need anything is to keep it all in the hoop. you can use phone book pages for paper-piecing, so why not in the hoop? We'll see. Good luck, hugs, Marji
Is this what you are looking for
I personally like a softer hand to my quilts. Rows of satin stitches doesn't evoke a feeling of something I want wrapped around me. However, if you were using it strickly for a bed topping, it might be ok. It's a matter of personal preference. I don't know where the design that you are referring to is located. ;)
Yvonne, www.hoopsisters.com has all kinds of in the hoop quilt patterns. If you join their Yahoo group there is one free there for members, and they are offering a free pattern if you join Facebook, too. They will answer questions and have instructions on how to do the patterns on the Yahoo group. I've seen these done at my dealer, and they look pretty easy, surely a lot easier than trying to shove a whole quilt into a sewing machine to quilt it! Good luck, hugs, Marji
