I thought of using felt but I am not sure how it would hold up when washed.

I want to make it for my daughter's classroom and put embroidery on it.

Thanks in advance

Maybe denim? You could even use old jeans for a kind of 'punky' look, depending on how old your daughter is. Hugs, Marji

Hi Grobin, Think about using simple materials, I LOVE unbleached Muslin because it washes so nicely but so many other materials work well too. There is linnen as well as cotton, just remember to wash and machine dry the material BEFORE embroidering on it, you will have pre shrunk it and not get a surprise after it's first wash!! Good Luck.

Felt is one fabric I wouldn't use if it will need to be washed. Felt can by dried cleaned, however. Flannel has the look of felt, but is washable. Just use any fabric that is washable--when you go to buy it you can get the washing instructions--they are printed on the end of the bolt that the fabric is wrapped around. You are probably going to prewash it before embroidery, so you will know what it's going to look like when washed. Bet it will be cute!
