Yes, Marietta is right. Stitch no. 1 first. Don't take the hoop or design of the machine. Just continue with no.2.
Make sure you have stabilized the fabric well, because with a split design it usually means it has a lot more stitches in the design then your machine can handle, so the software will split it in 2.
The Janome 300E can do about 65,000 stitches.
If a design is converted to a SEW format it very often gets split because it really can't stitch a lot of stitches in one go.

I think you load both, and just stitch the first bit, and carry on with the next one by just stitching the last bit after it. Ooooooh, hope it makes sence.
I will give it a go and see what happens. I thought it was because the design was too big for the hoop and you had to do the pattern in 2 stages
No, it doesn't mean it's too big. It means it has too many stitches for your machine. If the design was too big for the hoop, you would not be able to save it at all.
