Dear Lilian,

So sorry to hear about your toothache. OUCH! I work at a Dentist and I can't believe you have to wait a week when you are in pain. I would let you in straight away - we always have emergency appts available.

I do hope you can get in earlier than that. I'd be on the phone tomorrow morning ringing up to see if there is a cancellation and ask the receptionist to put you on an A S A P list (as soon as possible).

I have been away since Friday. I am one of my church's SYNOD representative of the Anglican Church of Australia held this year at our Conservatorium of Music.

Make sure you ring tomorrow morning (Monday) and see if you can get in earlier.

Love and blessings Chris

Lillian, what a bummer!! First, pain; there is an old Native American remedy of celery. Since chewing would be a problem, try mushing it with a meat hammer, and put it on the tooth, let it get to room temperature first so it won't shock the root. I know an old Indian who swears by this. Just for what it's worth, are you sure you need to go thru this? I tripped once, many years ago, and kind of "clacked" my teeth together, if you know what I mean. The tooth that had the crown split the bottom tooth it hit clean in half like yours. But when my root canal guy looked at the x rays, he said the crack went all the way to the root, and probably a root canal wouldn't do much good for long. He said there was about a 50-50 chance it would work, but only for a while, and I'd have to have it pulled anyway. I opted to save the root canal money and just go strait to extraction, do not pass Go, do not collect $200. Just a thought, because I know you're on a fixed income, too. My dentist apparently has enough money, if he talked himself out of a $900 job, hee hee hee. And seriously, my regular dentist came in on the
Fourth of July to see me one time when I lost a crown, and didn't charge me, either. Crikey, I think I'd be making some waves, doesn't the word "emergency" mean what it used to mean any more? So sorry for your pain, Lilian, try the celery, or how about OraJel, like for babies' teething? This has to be the worst pain! You're in my prayers, sweetie, hugs, Marji

Marji, thanks for the celery tip, I'm trying everything suggested. Problem is, this is one of the day my bottom partial clips on or I would have had it pulled. You r right about the $$. I have no dental Insurance. I'm gonna go get the celery out of the fridg. *

Miss Lil, when this happened to me, my dearest friend told me to call the dentist that was to do my root canal and ask for Toradol 10. It saved my life! There are NO side effects, you do not feel drugged and it is specifically for tooth pain. Prayers and love you to!

Oh thank u Jerrilyn I happen to have some toradol, just been hurting pretty bad & hadn't thought of that. It was given to me for bone pain. I have given so many shots of toradol when a broken bone had to b operated on to set it. Thank u I must tell u this though. too much of it will mess your liver up.

Thanks for the tip. I only took it for 4 days until I could get to the endodontist. Of course mine happened on a Friday afternoon.

Hi Lillian You should not have to suffer a whole week. I worked in a dental office for 15 years. All the dentist had to do is open up the tooth and place a little medicine in it until you could get back there to have the root canal done. You would have been comfortable the whole week. Try calling him to open the tooth. Meanwhile you will be in my thoughts. Suzanne

Thank u Suzanne but my dentist has left to go on a hunting trip & the orthodontist who will b doing the root canal is only in his office tues, wed, & Thur. We must pay them to much or they couldn't work so few hrs. *

sdrise by sdrise 16 Oct 2009

you have that right! Sorry for your pain.I know how it is . That happened to me over Christmas 2 years ago.No one around to help. I will pray for relief for you. Salt water rinses help and try not to chew on that side. The salt and water stops the germs from getting into that crack. You can try putting sensodyn toothpaste all around that tooth like a medicine. It will make the tooth less painful when you breath on it too

Lillian, I do understand what you are going through - try using a bit of hydrogen peroxide with a bit of water - half and half - swish in your mouth and hold over the tooth that is in pain - for as long as you can stand it (2 minutes) - it will ease that pain and also help with any infection that you might have - it is an old wife's tail, but it works. I will be praying for you - as well. *4U

Oh thank u shirlene I will try it. The tooth is not decayed but has cracked all the way across & is open down to the root. *4U

I went Tuesday and had the beginning of an implant started so I share in your pain...he also told me to rinse with the peroxide full strength!! My swelling is starting to go down 3 days later, but I'd rather have given birth AGAIN than have this mouth pain!!

Oh Lillian. Having a toothache is no fun. Hopefully the pain will lessen some. I guess they put you on anti biotic to calm down the inflamation. That should bring some relief. I pray that the next week is going to bareable. Hugs Angie

No antibiotic. The tooth has no decay but is cracked across & open all the way down into the root. It's a bummer. My dentist says" Nothing hot or cold & don't breathe(air sets it off). I had to laugh when he told me that. thanks *
