greatly appreciated if you gave me your thoughts on what you use and why.

For example I am not sure if I should use a 40, 50 or 60 weight.

Thanks in advance.

Chris, I have Robison-Anton, Isacord, and Floriani. I would not recommend Floriani, because some of it is great and some of it is no end of problems with shredding. I don't have problems with either the RA or Isacord. The problem with any black thread is how it is made. Often, the color runs that don't turn out right are overdyed black, and that weakens the thread. A lot of machines seem to have a thread preference, something they work best with. My Janome is not the least bit fussy, so I'm lucky there, I can use whatever I choose. I use polyester, because although I do love the way the rayon looks, it is really so soft and slippery I'd be chasing it all over the sewing room most of the time, hee hee hee. I have a couple small spools I purchased accidentally, and the thread really 'drips' off them like melting ice in front of a hair dryer. But the colour is lovely. For bobbins, I use YLI's nylon lingerie and bobbin thread, it's very very thin and strong, so there's a lot on a bobbin when I wind it. Best of luck to you, hugs, Marji

you have been given several brands to check out and i have tried most of them. I will admit 40 wt rayon is beautiful, but you will cry the first time a thread pools on you. it literally falls off the spool or cone. never turn one up side down. I use Hugo's amazing tape if there is no snap bottom to secure thread. I now mostly purchase poly emb thread. another site to visit is The Embroidery Store www.embstore.com check out the Poly-x40 threads, very reasonable and stabilizers good price too! Kay

Chris, I ordered the last time by Metro as well and i love it and so does my machine. Very good prices compare with the prices here in The Netherlands including the shipping and customs.

I use Metro. Their prices are great, sews great on my machine and they take Pay Pal, which is nice. I just ordered their pre-wound bobbins - hope they are as good!

Hi I use isocord thread I bought from embroidery supply. I have the whole set of 345 colors. I have been using it for a while with no problems. It comes in rayon, poly, and cotton. I use the poly as it doesn't fade and you can bleach it too. Hope this helps Suzanne

I also bought the Dragon threads Chris, and I love the vibrant colours and the shine on their Polyester and Rayon.

But I had no end of problems with the black and white so I purchased Madeira Black and White (Rayon and Poly) on 5,000 mt spools from AllStitch, cheaper than trying to buy here and I am very happy with them, so much so I just purchased two more of each and the lovely vibrant red.

I tried black and whites in both Q & A and Robison Anton and wasn't happy with them either so I now use them in the bobbins.

All my other threads (besides the Dragon) are Robison Anton purchased in bulk (when on special) from Shoppers Rule. But I do have the Madeira Rayon Threadbox.

Hope this helps.
Hugs n roses, and Happy New Year, Meg

allstitch has best price on titanium needles. If you go to their site, check needles too.

Hi Penni, I have the same problem with black thread. I don't think that the black thread is actually bad, but that it's the outline stitch and used in a way that it zig zags around the design and becomes worn out as it stitches so breaks or freys...

I purchase from Metro Thread - I love all their colors and black is good, too and most of all the price is right, too!

Chris I like Robinson anton poly thread. I use 40 wt & prefer polyester. Now a lot of what I use depends on my machine. There are threads it refuses to sew without freq breaking. I can use metro, radient., textrix some of the cheapies with no problem but RA is still my thread of choice. In the bobbin I like YLI 40 wt 100% nylon & Finishing touch but the FT is very expensive & YLI works well for me. Lillian *

I also like Robison Antone but have bought other brands too. My machine is not picky, sometimes I think the problem is the needle, not the thread.

Chris like Tubby said, use dark brown. Black is a "reject" cotton as such.

I do always - but I want to buy a well known brand and Meganne said it's cheaper to buy them overseas than here in Australia. I just want to know what is the best brand to get.

Love Chris
