I'm using water soluble fleece type stabiliser (two layers) and the same thread above and below.

looking at you photo, I will not call you Sue. You have gotten good advise. I have only done a few lace designs, so I will let more experienced Cuties give you advise. However, I didn't see anyone mention Badge Master. I have a roll made by OESD, Oklahoma Embroidery Supply and Embroidery Inc. It is much heavier weight than other wss. Others that have used it may want to compare with other products for you. Good Luck.

Success at last!
I used bobbin thread above and below this time - I think the threads I had used previously were too thick.

Sue u have been given lots of good advice. Try looking for a small simple FSL Design, all in one color with not a lot of flourishes on it. Start from there. the 2nd u start having trouble stop machine & let's start from there to see if we can identify what your problem might b. As everyone else has said. Slow machine down & I would not use anything but regular emb. thread, no metallic.. Have u talked to your dealer about this or shown them what the machine is doing? *

Make sure your hoop is real tight so your stabilizer does not slip at all. I was doing it for the first time and thought it was tight until the last outline stitch was far away from my design, After I tightened same design was great. I have no idea why you are breaking needles try a different design to make sure it is not that design.

Sue, so sorry to hear that you are having troubles with your FSL and your needles. It does sound like either your machine tension is messed up or your design is too dense. Whose design is it? I have never heard of the WS Fleece Stabilizer. I use a mesh looking WSS - some called Vilene and other's call it WetB-Gone. I always use the same embroidery thread in the top and bobbin and a good brand needle - size 14 usually. I just hate to hear that you are having troubles with FSL, it there is anything that I can do to assist you - don't hesitate to ask. Hugs, Shirlene

Have you tried a different design perhaps the one you are trying is too dense? I had one that I tried and of course it was the first attmpt, but it turned out the design was just too dense I am guessing it was poorly digitized. I have attempted again with other designs and not had a problem. I used 2 layers North South and East West of the Vilene WSS (fabric kind NOT plastic wrap kind) Sharp 11/75 Titanium needle (14/90 also worked good) I am sorry this is all of the help I can give to you I am very new to embroidery.

I use woven wsl and the one for towels above for open fsl (needle 75) the dense ones i use two layers of woven wsl(needle 90). change needles often (max 8 hours) This works with me, Yvonne

Which design are you trying to sew out? It must be digitized very well or it won't work. Are you using a reputable digitized design?
Broken needles on FSL can be tricky. On regular designs it's easy to go back and go over stitches to finish the design. On FSL if you aren't watching carefully you might not go back to the right spot and then the stitches won't be linked well enough to hold.
I'm not sure what fleece type stabilizer is unless you mean the type you use over fleece. I use a water soluable with two layers.
Are you trying to put more than one design in a hoop? That doesn't always work with FSL either.
Good Luck.

Just read back a couple of pages. Another cutie asked the same question and got a lot of good tips. Welcome to cute and when you have a couple of minutes to spare, it is a good idea to read the questions asked and answers. Happy embroidering.

Same thread under and above is right.
I use 1 thick layer of solvy. this one is much thicker than what you normally use say on top for a towel. It is called ultra solvy. Have no problems at all this way.
Good luck
