I haven't yet tried to embroider on a towel. Glad to see this question, in case I want to give it a go. I usually buy towels that are already monogrammed never thought to do it myself!
I went to a class. Put sticky stablizer on the hoop. Iron on stab. on back of towel to keep from pulling towel threads. lay on hoop put plastic on top of towel. for a monogram she had us use white bobbin thread the first time and then put the color in for the 2nd. time doing the letter. It really looks nice this way Hope it's clear
I use a med wt. cut away or tear away on back. Hoop stabilizer, lay towel on top, pin then base towel on the stabilizer after laying WSS on top. Stabilizer on back stabilizes the design in the loosely woven terry cloth & keeps it looking well through many launderings. When done I tear the WSS off & remove all bits & pieces sometimes needing to give it a little spritz with water for tiny pieces. *
I have only done a few towels ... i hooped up the towel and wws then floated stabilizer underneath turned out gr8 :)
I only use wss on top of the towel, no stabilizer at the bottom when I do embossed designs - hugs Yvonne
EVERYONE MAY DO IT DIFFERENT WAYS, i put sticky stab on hoop, then put towel on then use a floater on bottom & clear stab on top to hold down terry loops. Again, it will also depend on the thickness of towel, that you may want to do it on a think material and sew it on towel. I even us a shield at times, but here is a towle set i did for a new home owner named Heart! Do you like how I put the two together. Well, this is only one way that i do it. Hope this helps you a lot or if other Q's u can PM for help. Enjoy Grammy
I did it exactly the same way I do all towels: tear away at the back, thin plastic type water soluble stabiliser on top.
