The census is very valuable for tracing your ancestors. I am 60 and have been trying to trace my family lines. They list who is living at a home, age, place of birth and occupation and parents place of birth. I wish the census before 1850 was more accurate. But be alert as they shouldn't ask for Social security number or bank accounts. Several of the past census' have listed assets, and I am sure several gave an incorrect amt.
Too true Deanna. I would urge everyone who reads this to go to the US census site and get yourself educated as to what can be asked and how you can identify legitimate census takers. There are also hand held devices that can hack into your unprotected wireless devices, so KNOW what's going on and you can best decide how to protect yourself.
I worked for the 1970 US Census. I think it was every 10th house got the long form and I was embarrassed to ask the questions. They were way to personal. i shutter to think if i get one now, because I probably would not answer and then a supervisor would show up. Neal Boortz, radio talk show host says he is only going to give how many live there. I realize many older folks were able to establish their age to get social security by US Census, so I guess it had some positive sides.
Thanks for this...some of those e-mails make you feel so guilty if you don't pass them on. Now I will not feel that way!
Thank u Deanna. So many of our elderly do not understand all this & it's up to those of us who do to help them. They are preyed upon & taken advantage of especially if they do not have children or younger relatives near by. It's up to us to step up & help protect them. *
The goverment has more survey's than just the decenial census going on all the time, you are right though that they never ask for personal info such as your social number or bank account. If anyone is asking for this info it should raise a BIG RED FLAG of FRAUD. I have worked on surveys and still do I consider I am a door to door sales women but I am not selling anything, the survey I work on now I actually pay people for their particapation.
I do have a legal badge and never ask any identifing info. I also accept no answers for questions if the person is not comfortable with giving it. the only way our goverment can know what is going on in the public is to ask them. this is done through a random selection, if they only picked people who stepped forward it would be bias info, not a true look at the people of America. Anyone who is working for a survey that is legal will always direct you to a web, 1-800 # and give you time to research that they are Legitimate, if they are pressuring you to do it right there without giving you time it is another RED FLAG
hope this helps some out there to be aware of what our goverment does do all the time.
thanks for the info - I received something like this, as well. Thanks for sharing it.
