You should see what you can do with the Singer software. Software packages vary a lot in what they can and can not do. Sometimes you can buy parts, other times there are a few choices, basics to prof version, and prices vary too. I have Husqvarna 3D Pro, an expensive one, and Embird, which is comparatively cheap - basic, Studio (the digitizing part) and a few extras. I love the latter.
The only thing I can advise you is: make a list of what you want, then compare the various brands.
Have a look in the 'software' tab and you'll find all sorts of great answers to your question as this question has been asked and answered quite a few times.

You might want to check out Sew What Pro it is a lot cheaper. I will attach the web address. It is $65.00
$300.00 seems cheap to me. Husqvarne is lots more expensive. Check that it has all you want to do for that money, ie can you also do letters with it and enlarge designs etc. Have not got Embird, but know the price is very reasonable.
I am not sure but to get every thing I think you will need it is about the same maybe a little highte I have been looking at embird and i thik what you need to digitize is around 350
