I am going to put them in a clear page protector. Each font is numbered with a pen/marker and the names are written down on a paper that will stay with the fonts. This way I don't have to continue to go to my computer and hook up my machine to view what each one will look like. :) Does anyone else do this, or have an easier way to keep up with the fonts? (I don't have ped either)...

I store mine on a CD. But, I have one file that I created that has the A of each font on it - named, for example "EmbossedSwanFont-A", so that I can look at that file and know exactly what font I want to choose. Saves me a lot of time. However, I like your idea of making an embroidered sample.

Of course you must be talking about font 'embroidery designs'.
I have over 4,500 'true type' (not designs) fonts on my computer, so imagine the fun I have when someone wants me to digitise a text design and says something like, "Oh I don't really care what font you use." LOLOLOL!!!!!

Sometimes it takes me longer to find the most suitable font to use, than it does to digitise the design. :-)))

As for viewing EMBROIDERY DESIGN Alphabets/Fonts, I use Embird Iconizer and set my Windows Explorer View to Thumbnails and only open my main Alphabets folder, then I can see all the alphabet folders and a view of what each font design (inside each folder) looks like.

See the picture below and if you click on the picture below you will get a close up view of it.

Would you like to come and organise my fonts for me??? :-)
Hugs n roses, Meganne

I have Embird Iconizer also. I see you have a folder that does not have the design on it. I have this too. What do you suppose causes this and can we put the design on them? Drives me crazy!!

I have a very large word document that I cut and paste the design information onto. I put basic info, pictures of upper and lower case Aa, and tag words so I can search. In the folder for each font I have another document with a picture of each letter in it. The tag words are very helpful so I can search for a font with hearts, florals, or animals etc.

I do have a program that lets me see a picture of the designs. I make folders for each font under Alphabets. The top folder I called 0 in which I put a copy of all the A's which have been renamed for the folder that their font is in. This way I have an example of each in one folder

I used to download the picture with the design but now have sewiconz. Deleted the pictures, more than halved the space I used, now more room for more designs. LOL. My brother instruction manual has all the pictures of the design held in the machine memory.

I have notebooks with hard copies of most of my design, especially the fonts. If each letter is different I print each one. However, if all of the letters have the same color scheme I only print out one such as the letter A. That way I look at them without the computer being on. I have 4D Extra which allow me to view each of the designs in color, if I remember to unzip them. I might suggest that you unzip them regularly especially free ones before they are no longer available. I have a set that I just unzipped them all when the set was finished because I find it easier. But one set one of the letters did not download correctly so I would have missed it. Luckily the site had all of the letters available until the set was finished so I was able to get it before they were no longer available.

I have sew iconz from sands computing - for $25US it is a stand alone program that allows you to see an image of the design file in your windows file. For me it saves so much time (and frustration finding designs) it is well worth the money!

I think it would be much easier and cheaper in the long run to just buy ped basic or the amazing box or any type of card reader/writer they have many kinds at allbrands and the customer service is exceptional. OR you can try using the 7 day free trial of sewiconz and see if you like it and decide to buy it, I do not believe it is very expensive at all.

I agree with you about the max box. I have it and I download my patterns to Iomega 100 disks. i can the run it on my computer and bring up the design I want and run it through the box when i am ready to use it. i don't download patterns to my computer so I don't have to worry about losing them if the comp goes down.I put alphas on one disk andother patterns on other disks, The box has a catalog on it so you can see the design. this has been the easiest way for me to handle a few thousand patterns.
