Subject: *77

Some know about the red
light on cars, but not the *77.
It was about 1:00p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was drivingto visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up
behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's
parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.

OK, pay attention to this!

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was
an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher
checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked
car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and
tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.

I never knew about the *77 Cell
Phone Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe
place..

*Speaking to a service representative at ** Bell ** Mobility confirmed that
*77 was a direct link to State trooper
info So, now it's your turn to let your
friends know about *77.

You may want to Send this to
every woman (and man) you know. It may save a life.

This applies to ALL 50 states.

Thank you so much Lillian. Here at Columbus was a guy with the same technique few weeks ago; he assaulted a woman. Is good to know about the *77. I didn't know about it. Thank you so much. Flower and XoXo

I don't think *77 works up here. Not that I see the police often anyway. I have a better chance of a moose pulling me over. Still good to know and will pass on the info to my daughter. Thanks Lillian.

Thanks Lillian I was unaware of the *77, but was aware of the unmarked car caution. My husband retired from the Police Dept in our home town after 26 yrs. and he had warned us about unmarked cars. Lets spread the word and just stay calm and drive to a public place and in the mean time call *77 for conformation of the person behind you. Sara

NOT all states use *77. Here is a site that has a chart for checking your state.

Thank you for this reminder, it is a sad world we live in that WE were brought up to trust & respect our elders and authority figures, now that line has been blurred. I will always stick to the 911, but in some major cities I have heard that you can be put on hold for 911! So if this were to happen to me, at least I now have a backup plan with *77 TYVM

Thanks Lillian, this is great to know. Here in Ontario *677 will get you the Ontario Provincial Police. I am not sure if this number works in all provinces. Thank you for posting this. Lynn

Sorry, but this isn't true in ALL states...Just dial 911 and tell the operator your intentions of pulling over in a well lit populated place.

Thanks for the information. I always wondered what could be done if you didn't want to pull over for a police car, or someone acting like a policeman.
