The Mayo Clinic rapid weight loss pre surgery diet was very popular in the 70s. My Grandmother was on it for that reason and lost quite a bit of weight. Every now and then she would go back on it if her weight was creeping back up. I remember her eating a lot of salad and vegetables, so I think it must be healthy enough. You could easily loose 10 lbs. the first week of any low calorie diet, after that your metabolism slows down and so does the weight loss. I tried finding the diet you mentioned on e-Bay and could not see it listed. Perhaps they have removed it already.
no it is still there but if you would like it try this website.

Thank-you for the link. The diet is not at all like the Mayo Clinic diet but I have seen many variation of this one in magazines. Usually its cabbage soup. It is certainly easy to make low sodium soup buy using fresh tomatoes and home made or any low sodium broth. There are even low sodium bouillon brands. I suppose it would be a good kick start to a weight loss program.
I remember my aunt gave me one over 20 yrs ago. They have different kinds. I would love a copy if it's free. Is there a website? TIA ;D *2U
