Years ago I made over-the-head bibs from handtowels using ribbing around the neckhole. I want to make some for my grandkids. Does anyone know the guidelines for cutting the hole the proper size?

Guess what, I just found a blank. The label is Rabbit Skins. It is made from a finger tip towel. The round hole is off center leaving more area for front. The hole is 5 1/2" across( bigger than a CD) and the ribbing is 3" wide, folded and serged with a 1/2" seam. Looks like the finished seamed ribbing is 16". i just looked up the cost from Shoppers Rule.com. It was $3.52 each, which I didn't ever order anymore, because I felt they were too expensive. Have fun making some. I will post photos of front and back. Kay

I cut the hole the size of a CD. Measure the circumference and cut the ribbing 2/3 to 3/4 of that in length (depending on how stretchy it is) and just under 1.5" (or 7 cm) wide.

A cd is a good guide to use. What I also did was to put thin elastic inside the ribtrim, because the ribbing do stretch with time and the elastic just keeps it in place around the neck and it stays neat. Happy stitching.

Hi

I have made a few of those bibs, but left the back open and put a snap there... but what you can do, is measure the childs head, and cut the hole out using a small bowl that measures the same around their head... maybe that will help you get the hole the right size.

Hi You can go to Embroidery Library under projects I think they have the instructions there. You can try Nancy Zieman site I think she features it also. Good luck Suzanne

I do recall this, as I remember, you fold the towel in half then place a !/2 of a CD in the middle of the fold of the towel to cut around. I can not remember the size of the ribbing to use. I am sure someone else will remember more. H&*
