Dear Marie,
My 7 year old grandson loves Pokemon, Vehicles, Sports, Backugan characters, Pirates, Airplanes, Helicopters, and the color BLUE. No pink in his house!
In Designs by Cuties you can find one or two Pokemon characters. He will like whatever you do; don't worry. You're his Nana!
Love,
Jacqueline
Marie the bag must be finished when I come to visit.
I saw you got the sites for making a bag, but was asking what to embr. on it.
If he's seven how about: Pirates , knights or cars.Perhaps he likes a special sport? Hope you find something.
Thanks Gerry, He is a keen rugbyplayer, but everything is about rugby. Love Marie
how about taking like a placemat pattern fold in half with handles and a snap or velcro to hold closed could also put zippers up the sides to keep sides closed. I would use covered elastic to keep everything in place, would make easy for little ones to put things back in place, embroider a plate were the plate goes and so on, so he will know were each item goes back. for the outside I would put something like (moms cooking to go) with a truck and food in the back maybe trailing. I would not put his name on it, if anything initials would do but I think it would be a one of a kind anyways
I agree with Chris, that a place for the utensils would ensure that they return home. Will the child be able to clean his items before placing them in the bag? If not, perhaps a plastic lined bag would be best. If you can make a pocket inside, for the shape of the plate, the cup and the utensils, that would help in organizing the bag.
I also suggest doing an internet search on Bento Boxes; they are the Asian style lunch boxes that sometimes come with cute little bags in which to carry everything.
Any of the following links may give you ideas. A bag made in a sturdy fabric would work well; of course you could embroider a monogram or a picture, depending on the child's age. I'd suggest making a few fabric napkins, also, so the child can keep his face and hands wiped, and may use it to dry off the cup and plate.
When working with Boy Scouts, I made simple draw string bags for the boys to carry their eating implements inside. They also had a mesh bag, so that they could immerse the whole 'mess kit' into boiling water for cleaning and then hanging from a branch to dry.
So a search (Google or other search engine) on Bento Boxes, as they often have clever ways to carry eating utensils, etc.
Will add more links later, if I can find something else.
Bet Eva knows of some links.
Best of luck,
Jacqueline
Thanks Jacqueline, I did have a look at these sites. Now what kind f pattern can I embroider on it He is 7 years. Love Marie
Marie, I'd make a little rolled up type of holder. You know the ones like you can put your jewellery in. That would be good for the cutlery.
You could make a bag say 20" long x 18" wide just put a turned over seam at the top and thread a large rope style cord through it. If you like you could put a couple of pockets on the front or back large enough to hold the plate, cup etc. Just measure a cup, plate and glass etc. and make the pockets an appropriate size. I'd make them with a flap top either with velcro or a large buttonhole and button. It's up to you what sort of clasp you'd need.
I made one for Ryke last year for pre-school but it was just a plain draw-string bag. We just put everything inside it.
Good luck. Love and blessings Chris
here is an old post with some ideas that may help. The one I made as a swimming bag works as book bag, may work as long as the plates are plastic :)
