I have a Janome Memorycraft 11000. When I had that problem with my embroidery, I was told to turn the small screw on the bobbin case to the right just a bit and then if it does not work, try turning it a bit more but you keep turning it just a small amount until you achieve the result you are looking for. This adjustment worked beautifully on my machine and it brought the top stitch slightly underneath into the bobbin thread so it was not coming to the top. Hope this suggestion works for your machine.
If the Bobbin thread comes to the top of the design then your Top Thread Tension could be set too high and the top thread is pulling the bobbin thread up.
*Do not set the top thread tension higher or it will pull even more on the bobbin thread.
Try decreasing your Top Thread Tension just a bit then test stitch a design.
If it still is being pulled to the top of your design then decrease the top thread tension again just abit and try a stitch out again.
Always try this before making any adjustment to your bobbin thread tension.

I have a Brother. My bobbin was coming to the top no matter where I set the tension. I took it to the Brother dealer and they reset the bobbin tension to correct it. Then the tension was not right for regular sewing. I had to buy another bobbins case. I now have one for embroidery and one for regular sewing. That way I do not have to keep trying to change the bobbin tension. Joyce
like everyone else I agree, most of the time it is the tension, perhaps you can change that in your machine, I had it once with my brother bobbinholder, there was a piece of thread stucked in the holder. after carefully removing, the tension was normal again.hope something will work for you.
Boo, did you get anything to work for you? I have never messed with the tension on my bobbin case, however, I have changed the tension in the machine menu. H&*
I have a brother4000d - it has two bobbin cases, one with a pink screw and one with a green screw on it - now I know there was a technical explanation on when to use which one but I can't remember what it was or find it right now. From memory it was something to do with using brother thread vs not brother thread. At the moment I have the green one in the machine, and it is working well. If you have both, try the other one.
Try a different spool of thread too. My Janome would only work with janome or brother bobbin thread, any other brand and it drags it to the top, and it wouldn't stitch with QA thread at all.
only have one bobbin case. i'll work it out.. yeah my sister has been there with QA thread. with her machine chewing it everytime.. after using QA she tried many other embroidery threads and still has the same problem. i'd say that QA has stuffed her machine.. and it needs a service.. agree??
I use alot of QA threads. I have a janome 9700. Try adjusting your bobbin tension. Some bobbin threads wont work on auto.
You might try a different bobbin case also. I have had the same trouble and it was because the spring on the side of the bobbin was bent. Who know how it happened but it did. You should always have an extra bobbin case anyway. It could be your tension also. Try adjusting the little screw on the case and see if that helps but making sure your machine and case are clean is the most important thing. Good Luck. I know the struggle.
Boo, what machine do you have? What fabric are you using? What bobbin thread? I have a Babylock and have found the only bobbin thread I can use is the "finishing touch". All the others I have tryed feed up to the top of my fabric. I hate that I am stuck with just one brand of bobbin thread. H&*
i have a brother innov-is 900. am using any fabric i can try at present. using embroidery thread. bobbin thread - brother bobbin fill which is what came with the machine. i would be scared to try any other bobbin thread..
hey boo, i have the same machine as yours and it has always been the tension when this has happened to me. good luck. sandy
I have 3 Brother machines and I find sometimes it is the bobbin itself that is not would tight enough. I have even had this problem with pre wound bobbins. I do not use Brother thread in my machines. I use Nebs pre wounds and Madeira thread.
Clean out the bobbin area and your bobbin case. Make sure your bobbin is wound and threaded properly. A basic rule of thumb is...if the mess is on top there's a problem with the bobbin-if the mess is underneath the problem is with your top thread. Hope it's a simple fix.
Boo make sure your tension is set as it should b. I would change my needle & I would probably try some different thread. Make sure your machine is clean also with no bits of thread in or under bobbin. I'm sure some of the others will also have some excellent advice for u. *
Boo: I work in a sewing machine repair shop and we are a brother dealer. Sounds like a tension problem. Tech says top tension controls bottom thread, bobbin case controls top thread. try increasing the top tension just a little at a time till it is corrected. Your book should talk about tensions too. Hope this helps..
Pretty sure this is the answer. I have been embroidering crazy quilt blocks, and I had to increase my top tension by .2!
