one there was no 'winrar' to unzip these designs. Soooooo hubby goes online and downloads the trial version of the winrar to unzip these files, thennnnnnnnn everything turns to the winrar program and the regular winzip disappears! He tried this a.m. to retrieve it but was unsuccessful (so far). Now I'm sure he'll fix it - he always does - but does anybody know where you can get the winzip free? The only one he found this a.m. was $40 and that seems not quite right. so while he's away working I thought I'd ask since all you ladies seem to know where to find just about anything. (which is really cool) Anyway thanks so much for any info you have, I'll keep using my winrar for now but it won't unzip everything - sigh . . . . . . .

I forgot to mention, that it doesn't matter which icon shows for your zipped files, you can still unzip with whichever program you choose. Instead of double clicking with your left mouse button, try single click RIGHT mouse button, you will get all the zip options, Winrar's will show on the first menu, Winzip option show when you then scroll down to it.

Gives you much more control over where you put your files after unzipping.
You can even select Multiple zipped files and tell them to unzip each to their own folder, very helpful with design files.

You can download a 45 day free trial version, normal purchase price is $29.95.

I have been using my trial version for over 3 years, just click the "use evaluation version" instead of the "buy now" every time you open it.

But WINRAR will open all winzip files and it can zip your own files to zip or rar format.
Hope this helps, hugs n roses, Meganne

I use iZip (free) with no problems. It zips and unzips everything. I think it's a windows program.

If you right click on a .zip file in your 'My Documents' folder, it will give you an option to 'open with' another dialogue box will open and you can then choose which program you want to open your .zip files. If you select the box that says always use this program to open these files, It will stay that way. You can do this for your .rar files and any others as well. Hope this helps. Best Regards, Robin

7 zip is a good program to go with.
If uninstalling winrar doesn't do the trick do a system restore
choose a time or day before you installed winrar.

Maybe you should try Uninstalling the Win Rar program and WinZip will re-appear. I have never had any luck with WinRar, but there is a program called 7-Zip, that is free, and it unzips all types of zipped files. Maybe you can try installing that. Here is the link...I HOPE.... http://files.uberdownloads.com/7-...
