or water. without being completely removed with the iron. The fabric could disintegrate. I had posted that I had used Heat N Gone by Floriani and it tore away better than wss topping and I didn't have to use an iron. Well the wheels started turning and ironically I happened to have a small pack of Sulky Heat-away. They are entirely different type of products. The heat away is like a stiff light weight canvas and the Heat N Gone looks like plastic wrap with goose-bumps. I will post photo,so you can see. Now I am left with the question of what happens to the Heat N Gone under the embossed area when you don't use an iron to get rid of it? What do you think?

Katy, your Floriani Heat N Gone will be fine on your towels. I was at a Floriani seminar a couple of years ago, and the presenter actually recommended the Heat N Gone for just that purpose, because it does not wash away, and will permanently prevent the loops from coming thru. The only way it "goes away" is if you actually touch it directly with the hot iron, but if you iron over the part under the threads, it won't vaporize, it just stays there. This advice is ONLY for the FLORIANI product, others may not be the same, and I would certainly check out whatever other brand you may be using. Good luck, Marji

I had a look at the Heat n Gone website, where it gives instructions, no warning there, so I think it does not have this problem.
I have a heat-away product - no brand name - that looks like plastic wrap with small perforations. It gives instructions but no warming. Now I got curious, so I stitched a small piece on fabric and wetted it. Nothing happened, so hopefully Sulky is the only one that does not like water.

I hope you don't mind that I shared your post without asking you first. I merely wanted to share so we all could comment and learn from each other. I love to try new products and always keep an eye for some thing newer and better.

Of course I don't mind!
I read the warning about Sulky in my (Dutch) Accessory Instructions by Viking and just found it in on their on-line Accessories Cataloque, http://www.e-magin.se/v5/viewer/f... , page 101.

I've used Heat N Gone for over a year, and I've never had any damage done to the fabric. If you don't heat it away, it either stays where it is or eventually separates from the design through multiple washings. It's a great product!

This was my ponder. Does it wash out eventually? I guess it would not matter if it does not show. All Floriani products that I have used are good quality. Their company name is RNK Inc. Knoxville, Tennessee.

Beautiful towel; I too have never used the heat stabilizers, but have a variety of other types. It is worrysome to think that a design could be in jeopardy if the item was washed...

I think that only applied to the Sulky brand.

I just want to say the towel is Gorgeous, sorry I have never used any of the heat stabilizers :(
the only 4 I use are vilene, tear away, sticky back tear away and sticky back wss. I have often wondered about the heat kind but, my iron and I are not the best of friends.

I have never tried sticky back wss. Does it work with towels or do the loops pull on the back side??

psssst by psssst 22 Feb 2010

Yes it works very nicely, I hoop the SBWSS cut away the protective paper then I fold the towel in half and do my centering and press the towel to the SBWSS. I will mail you a sample of it as soon as I can dig out from the snow and cold temps and make a trip to the post office! :x

actually if you go look in projects I used SBWSS on this design ( you can see the remnants of it by the hoof to the right) amd when the jacket gets washed the SBWSS will be gone. I did trim it as close to the design as I could.
