I have spent days and days designing and test stitching for a ring cushion for my son who is getting married in April. After spending ages trying to hoop this gorgeous duchess satin the screw in my hoop would not tightenen up. AARRGG!! Panic, Panic. I lives miles from from any dealer so my only option was to phone Janome Head office. They can supply another screw and nut but want £5 post and packing, which I thought was a bit steep but needs must. I have since found out the screw is the same on both my hoops so at least I can get swop them until I get the new one.

Does anyone know if this is a common problem? I have only had my machine for just over a year and honestly I did n't think I could have worn it out yet! PS Its just started snowing here and I have to go to the Dentist later today. Will I be able to get the car off the drive!!

I have also had this problem, and just used the screw and bolt from one of my other frames. Now I always keep a spare screw, which I can only get from the dealer, which is very pricey. The bolt I have managed to get from our hardware store. So I have bought 10 of those which are very cheap.
Hope you managed to get to the dentist.

I had the same problem with a Janome embroidery hoop - the screw striped and the hoop would not tighten up. Luckily, my husband is a tool and die instructor at a technical college and made me a new one on a machine at school. I am so lucky! How much did the screw cost? Wow $5 to ship a screw? How much is that in U.S. dollars?

The screw cost £4(6.10us$) the nut £1 ($1.54) and the £5 p&p converts to $7.70. The rate for a small 1st class packet in the UK is about 60p (1 dollar). They must be packing it in gild leaf! lol!

I've had that happen once, but the machine was much older than yours. I, too, swapped the screw and later went to a DIY store to get a new screw.
Hope your dentist appointment did not turn out to be disappointing.

oh dear, hope you'll have a better day today, be careful with driving in that snow, Tell the dentist you had a rough day already so perhaps he can treat you gentle :)
about the screw never had problems. But instead of hoping the precious duchess, why don't you use sticky tear away stablizer in stead of hoping?anyway hugs for you!
