Do you use the same scissors for cutting applique as you do for trimming your embroidery threads or do you have seperate scissors? TIA ;D

Since I'm fairly new to embroidery I have never seen the duck billed scissors. I have always just used a small sharp pointed pair.

you have lots of great answers...i will just weigh in

I have the duck bill, appliques scissors...but i don't really like them, i keep cutting my stitches. so i have just been using the curved, pointy embroidery scissors...so even though i used the coupon and got the special applique scissors half price, they were still a lot of $ to put into something else to take up space...

good luck

I use separate pairs, duck billed ones for applique. They are very sharp and do a great job, although I might clip very tight inward curves with embroidery scissors as their blades are smaller and curved.

I use a small sharp tipped pair that I have from my hand embroidery days. The small blades allow me to get very close to the stitches. I have tried the duck bill applique scissors and do not like them, found them too clunky. With the small ones, and holding the excess material up and away, I can be very accurate.

I have a duckbilled pair which I have only used a few times, but believe it or not my embroidery scissors for cutting the threads has a curved blade and I like how close they get and as they are small they are not as cumbersome as the duckbilled, I prefer them!

I use a separate type....one that is made specifically for applique. Use your Joann's coupon when they're off sale. ;-) Right now they're 30% off I believe.
