Since I'm fairly new to embroidery I have never seen the duck billed scissors. I have always just used a small sharp pointed pair.
you have lots of great answers...i will just weigh in
I have the duck bill, appliques scissors...but i don't really like them, i keep cutting my stitches. so i have just been using the curved, pointy embroidery scissors...so even though i used the coupon and got the special applique scissors half price, they were still a lot of $ to put into something else to take up space...
good luck
Hi Monica,I have the curve ones, which I prefer to use for all embroidery/applique work.Hugs Yvonne
I use separate pairs, duck billed ones for applique. They are very sharp and do a great job, although I might clip very tight inward curves with embroidery scissors as their blades are smaller and curved.
I have a pair of applique scissors as well as several small snippers that I cut jump threads with. the applique scissors I only use for applique trimming. *
I use a small sharp tipped pair that I have from my hand embroidery days. The small blades allow me to get very close to the stitches. I have tried the duck bill applique scissors and do not like them, found them too clunky. With the small ones, and holding the excess material up and away, I can be very accurate.

I use an applique scissor for appliques and a regular embroidery one to trim the threads.Hugs.****
I have a duckbilled pair which I have only used a few times, but believe it or not my embroidery scissors for cutting the threads has a curved blade and I like how close they get and as they are small they are not as cumbersome as the duckbilled, I prefer them!
Like the rest of the answers I use different scissors. A very shap pointed for trimming and the applique scissor you can find them at JoAnn Fabric .
I use a separate type....one that is made specifically for applique. Use your Joann's coupon when they're off sale. ;-) Right now they're 30% off I believe.
I agree, even the Ginger is available with coupons. I use the Ginger duckbill. Have had them for 20 years and they are still great
