What material do you put on the back of a coaster?

When making coasters I like to use an old vinyl tablecloth that has been lined with flannel. I put the flannel to the outside, with vinyl inside thus making a waterproof barrier too. If not using this will just use flannel as it can be washed...if you use felt be sure to buy the washable felt.

Such great ideas. I've used hefty stablizer and any fabric of choice for the backing. I've also made them reversible with designs on both sides. I've also heard folks cut up plastic grocery bags to put in between the pieces of fabric.

How do you remove tea/coffee/red wine stains from these coasters? I would love to make some, but then think about the stains and then loose interest! Please tell me what you do? Suzette

Same for me. Surely they get stained straight away?

I have used insul-bright for coasters for warm drinks.

No harm in using old jeans and recycle.

I think I saw on Britt Embroidery that she uses old flannel backed vinyl tablecloths sandwiched between the front and back. you could also look for that fabric in the remnant bin at Joannes. I always check out the remnant bin.

I use a solid (as in- not printed)piece of plastic and then a piecde fabric above that. That way there isn't any sweating underneath.
