Yet another problem with my embroidery machine. Anyone know what causes the top thread to get all wrapped around in the bobbin case? I just destroyed a towel I was embroidering for my aunt.

This happens to me when I've put the bobbin in upside down.

hope your problems are over, the answer I wanted to give: changing needle and the tension of upper thread is already given, so good luck and *4u.

I also think changing the needle more often works,(but I hate doing it, don't know why) I guess I just don't want to take the time

I have been told that if thread build up is in the bobbin that the upper tension is not right and if bobbin thread is showing on top the lower tension is off. I know that my machine does do this my upper thread will pop out of the upper tension and what a mess, I always watch my machine for that reason, it will be running smoothly and then it just pops out so watching it I can catch it before it goofs up my project.

That is because the bobbin thread is not feeding correctly..the start to wind the bobbin probably ties it around the core of the bobbin, and so it just keeps pulling on the top thread. Try to replace the bobbin before you get to the end.

Noah - A lady in the Quantum Futura Yahoo Group (which has Jenny from Jenny's Sewing Studio in Texas answer a lot of questions) said that you should ALWAYS raise your presser foot to thread the machine and lower the presser foot to change the tension. You may already know this, I didn't. I just had the same problem. She also said when you "floss" where you thread to see if there is anything in there to lower your tension to 1 and raise the presser foot, then double a thread and floss each part of where you thread separately. Of course, this is all for nesting under the fabric, not above it. Hope this information helps you as it did me. This Yahoo Group is extremely helpful for Futura owners. I love mine! Anne

I have a futura too. Just got it in April. So far it's doing great. Any problems that I've had has been an error that I've made.

Usually when something like this happen the fault is with the upper thread. Take it out and rethread your machine. Also when the needle is blunt it can happen. Happy stitching.

Thanks, it's working again and I am bad about changing a needle unless it breaks so my bad I guess.

You are making your machine work harder than it should have to..a dull needle doesn't go through fabric as well as a sharp on!

Is there a clog of thread above the bobbin case where the needle enters? I just had similar problems. I had to remove the cover and clean everything out. My machine is now doing well. Best of luck and hope it is fixed quickly.

Yeah, tons of thread, cleaned it out and it did it again, then I rethreaded the upper thread and put a heavier wss on the towel and it seems to be OK now but I have had this happen many times with my regular machine and it drives me nuts!

The same applies to you regular machine. Mess at top - fault at bottom, mess at bottom - fault at top. We have a shop here in Pretoria and the lady there learnt me that. What she and her husband doesn't know about embroidery and needlework is a farvel. This man makes the most beautiful wedding dresses you can imagine. Happy stitching. Hugs. Annatjie

I learned the same thing, taught to me by the Bernina store that sold me my machine.
