Guess what, a volcano on Iceland is spewing so much ash into the atmosphere no planes are flying from Norway and now all airports in Denmark, the Netherlands (where I live) and Belgium are closed too.

She has rescheduled to early Saturday morning, but that may be impossible too. Anyway, it's just a minor disappointment, nothing life threatening like it is for those living near the volcano. One of life's little surprises.

Hopefully this dreadful situation will clear up very soon. There are so many stranded who can't get home.

She'll not be coming soon, maybe in August. But we are going to see her from 3rd May for 3 weeks. And we are going by car.

Een beetje wel, ja. Mijn man wist van niks, maar er was heel wat georganiseerd en gebeld.

I'm so sorry. I know what you mean though, my best friend is from Oslo and she had planned to come over to visit her relatives in Ca. and sent me an e-mail last night asking for prayer. They rescheduled the flight for the 28th hoping it will be cleared by then. I tell you, we are living in the last days, I feel. So much is happening all over the world. Hope you get to see your daughter soon. :)

At least she did not get stuck somewhere as many people were. I hope your friend will be able to make it on the 28th.

So sorry to here this - my friend in Uk was supposed to be going on holiday today but her flight is also cancelled - it seems the dust particles from the volcanoe are breezing accross Europe also so its unlikly any flights will be available till it's clear' it's dangers are the particles in the sky can damage the engine jets causing problems to aircrafts.

I saw all this on the news about the volcano ashes. I think it has shut down all of Europe. if a plane flies into it, the motor will shut down. Serious stuff. You may have to postpone the birthday party.

No such luck, I'm afraid, Schiphol (Amsterdam Airport) is closed today as well. Anyway, we'll be seeing them in May as we are visiting them (by car and ferry) from the 3rd till the 22nd.

But it's a nice day!
Love,
Martine

I saw the news reports. We hope your daughter gets there and safely. Mother Nature can do some mighty frightening things. I think that several flights going that way from the US were cancelled too.

mops by mops 17 Apr 2010

Half of Europe has its airports closed, Mother Nature is still spewing ash into the air. Well, it's nice and quiet not to have planes coming over, but for people returning home from the USA it's a bit of an upheaval. I heard on the news that 1 million Brits will not be able to resume work on Monday after the end of their Easter holidays. Never realised how much air travel has become part of our lives - no fresh food and flower exports, no postal services to and from other countries, and so on. So our disappointment is only a minor hiccup.

I have been watching the news and wondered just how many of the Cute family would be impacted by the volcano. I am sorry your daughter could not come. I know from what the news here in the states is saying it may be a while before planes can fly. I know it is a great disappointment for your family. But thank goodness your all safe. Hopefully she will still be able to make the trip in a few days. Happy Birthday to your husband, and may he have many more. Sara

For us it's just a minor thing, others maybe far less lucky, stranded somewhere on an airport.

One of the trials of life. Sorry she has not been able to make it Martine. Hope she can reschedule, but from what I see it will be difficult. Sad for you & hubby's disappointment. Happy birthday to your Husband! *

It has been on the news about the volcano when I have listened and there are no aircraft flying about. This is delightful (as it can be noisy) but then I remember your daughter who has had her travel plans put into disarray. Hopefully all will sort it self out and your husband will enjoy seeing her when she does arrive

I live close to a minor airfield and it's nice not to hear aircraft flying over. On the downside: she won't be able to come over. Had it been something she needed to attend, like a wedding or a funeral, she would certainly have tried to come by car or train. In this case my husband had a long telephone conversation - and other grands to cuddle.

Thanks, Shirlene, it's just one of those things, nothing like what you and Rick are going through. We are all healthy and my daughter lives 20 min from the airport, so no problems there - which is a blessing with the 11 months old baby.

I am keeping you in my prayers!!

Oh no! What a disapponitment for you and the family! I heard about the volcano on the radio - must be horrifying. Having been to Santorini, I can imagine how devastating and destructive this can be. Holding thumbs for the re-scheduled flight on Saturday, Martine.

When I saw the reports of the volcano on US tv this morning, it seemed as if no one would be affected b/c of the remote location. The reporter said that planes would avoid the area of the plume. Silly me; I thought that it was possible to avoid.
Now I see that you (and untold millions of others) are affected. Forgive me for being so blind to the circumstances that are caused by each occurance in our world.
Will pray for you and others affected by this volcano.
So sorry.

Same here, item on the news in some far-away place, which does not have any influence on our daily lives.
In this case I was surprised it would wreak havoc with air traffic in Europe. But it does, Northern and Western Europe as far south as Paris are having to close down airports.

For us it's a disappointment, others may be stranded and be booked in hotels or spend the night in not so comfortable conditions, but for the inhabitants it must be far worse.

Does she live near a volcano? It scares me a lot! Hope everything is gonna be alright! Hope the Iceland volcano stops soon its activities!

No volcano's in Norway where she lives, just a health warning for children, especially asthmatic ones.
But Iceland is on the mid-Atlantic ridge and that volcano has been active for a fortnight or so. Must be scary when you live close to it.
