I decided to try lace edging, and quickly learned that I have a ways to go before I am conformtable with this. I used Stitch Delight SC639 Hindalopen lace Edging. I was matching a tea doily that I had done for my sister, and I used varigated threads. I did not want to buy the linen, but went to Hospice resale shop, and bought linen table napkins to do this. They only cost me 25 cents, or 50 cents each, and will allow me to practice with the edgings. I only did 6 panels and the doily measures 10 1/2 " across. Just the right size to display one of the many tea pots that she collects. This picture doesn't show it well, but the linen material is the green in the doily edging.

What a great idea to use varigated thread in lace. I love the thread and I love lace. Thanks.

Beautiful work and design. I love using variegated thread, too. And great tip to use napkins for practicing. Thank You!

Very nice work. The variagated thread looks wonderful. I use them quite often. I like the softer shaded look some of them give.

It's a lovely design and a lovely doily. I only know Hindeloopen as paintwork, not as lace (unlike Belgium the Netherlands aren't renowned for lace making) but I recognise the swirls and flowers. Anyway, whatever it's named it's beautiful.

If you double click the photo - you can see the tea doily up close - it has a lovely green color and I know that your sister will adore this - it is stunning work.
