great job! love the color. You did fab on the neckline. I just spent yesterday with my daughter making an Irish dance dress and she doesn't use a pattern, it was nerve-racking for me, cause I like something to go by. I've been sewing over 40 yrs, but still like the comfort of a pattern when it comes to an adult clothing. BTW I love the sleeve length. :)
I also prefer a pattern and did use a basic dress pattern that I changed at the neckline. Its not as hard as you think. If I am really stressing I buy cheap 100% cotton and make a toille first, which I then recycle and use for embroidery blocks!!!!
This dress is so beautiful. How in the world can you make it from a picture? You are truly a gifted person.
Thank you! I look at the basic style and draw up a pattern or use one that I have that is closest to it and then I play.. can be a bit nerve wracking though!!!
Great job Fiona, this is a "Sweetheart" of a dress - I love this neckline and the color is yummy.
Thanks. i really battled to get the "cut out roundness" of the neckline and still have enought fabric to cover her bust. I LOVE a challenge!!!!
I love the style - In UK its is called "Sweetheart" neck line - I have many dresses & tops like this

In SA a sweetheart neckline is more of a strapless top/dress with a slight V in towards the bust... hope that makes sense. Isn't it cool that the names we give things changes to the area we live in!
Your are a fantastic, very creative seamstress. Great job.
Fiona this is lovely you did such a wonderful job on it.I know she will look great at the wedding.
beautiful dress ****
I loved the colour! She has the most beautiful steel grey hair and she really looks lovely!
Wow you are good if no pattern now you just took me back 55 years ago thats how we did them if we had no pattern & most could not afford the patterns back then Carolyn
Patterns are SO expensive. I have collected the basics and now I interchange them - use the collar of one and the sleeves from another ect. Can be challenging though!!!
