I'm just make a christmas stocking by crocheting and would like to embroider a name on it. Can someone give me tips on how to do this? Is there alpha patterns available for this?

There are numerous alphabet patterns available. You can google embroidery + alphabet and will find hundreds. This site has a corresponding cutealphabet.com with capitol letters more suitable for embroidering initials if that is what you want. The bet tip for embroidering on a crocheted item that I have is to hoop sticky tear away and then put a water soluable on top and pin heavily around where your design will go. The reason that I would use both is to stop the crochet from stretching in every way, or your design will be stretched out.
